  In The Rain

Unknown to me,  passersby yield
to the imperfections of countenance
that cling,
like talons gripping prey,
to my soul as the rain washes down
upon the city in cold and sad rhythm.
Death has been discovered
amidst life so fair
only now when the future
paths to glory have been laid.
Forgive my temperament
for the cloud of grief surrounding me
will not last forever.
