a short, funny story of a young man taking a trip to Paris for the first time - EVER!

I love Paris. I have never been there before because I hate to fly and the thought of traveling across the Atlantic ocean scares me to death! Many years later, visiting this spectacular city was finally going to become a reality.

I was ready to go, my pulse slightly elevated at the thought of travelling abroad - it has been awhile since I have travelled, and this time, I was really looking forward to the venture.

In a blink of an eye, I was suddenly in Paris!  What a sight - I was completely in awe at what I saw: the Eiffel tower out in the far distance, the cars travelling along the Rue De La Huchette, a glimpse at the Champs Elysees, the lights of the city illuminating the night time sky - what a spectacular view!

As I walked along the Rue Du Chat Qui Peche,  I could smell the aroma of the strong Parisian Coffee, the sweet taste of chocolate croissants as I approached the Cafe  De Flore, with cigarette smoke filling the night time air!  Ahh....I was in Paris at last and I was finally given a taste of what it was like to visit one of the world's most beautiful cities.

My visit would be short. I was being called in to dinner and I had to be up early for work the following day.

I was so crestfallen as I got up from my chair and removed the Virtual Reality Headset. Under my breath, I  whispered, "C'est La Vie " as I walked into the dining room, my dinner waiting for me......

Ha! You got me there, Mark. So descriptive for such a short piece, and that ending.....brilliant!

I am so glad you enjoyed it. Again, I loved writing it....I actually "took myself" there while I added the finishing touches.

I enjoyed that's actually really good. I might actually have to take your suggestion and try flash fiction.

Thanks! I think you should. Both genres ( Flash and poetry ) are short prose and interesting stories can be told in fewer words. Try it - I think you will enjoy it!

Thanks again!

Ah yes, dear Friend. C'est la vie!

Thank you for sharing your dream with us. Maybe one of these days you'll really be going. I have been to Paris and have to admit I didn't like it very much.

God bless and happy dreaming!

With love - Aquarius

Haha! I think this one is my favorite out of the two I've read so far by you. Brilliant ending, having caught on to your twists I expected him to be staring at a billboard outside of a cafe. I really enjoyed this one!

Thank you. I will fill you in on a little secret: it's my favorite, too!

Cute! You would need an appointment for the Eiffel Tower anyway.

It's great how you conjured up such a vivid image of Paris in just a few paragraphs. The aromas were mouth watering until I hit the cigarette smoke, but even that helped make it all seem real. It occurs to me that just reading a story like this takes one into a kind of virtual reality.

It is my hope that when you read this story, you come to realize that the power of the mind should never be underestimated.

I hope that you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Great write-up. Reading through, I just picture most of the places you mentioned. A great way to revisit Paris without being there.

I couldn't agree with you more. Stay tuned for a follow up story!!

Thank you for your kind words!
