It's the greatest love of all there is
To give ones life so another might live
Not to think of ones self  but only of them
We hear of this now and again
Heroes we call them  Oh how very brave
But their deeds soon forgotten  Left in the grave
For only a few remember the names and the deeds
That plucked the flowers out of the weeds

Let their spirit not die with the body's grave
For a spirit so strong so gentle so brave
Gave not a thought when they answered loves call
So someone may live They gave their all
They offered their lives for others in need
No matter the price They did the deed
Offering themselves to another in strife
A love so pure, so rare A life for a life

To give ones life for that of another
Is to hold the belief we are all sisters and brothers
No matter the color The race The creed
To die for another is a mighty deed
Unconditional love that's shown so rare
But it's there in our hearts Buried somewhere
For only now and again do we glimpse this love
That shows us all, the path from above
