This isn't really finished and, frankly, the metre is hideous - but I'm just glad to have written something.

The cool, crumbly beach of down the road

were desolate dunes on an alien world.

On this spot, battles were fought and Gods fell,

where I crossed and re-crossed a thousand times.

I return now and see only sand.

To a time when we could bend naturee.

I would fly across continents

and still be home for tea.

The boundaries between land and space

were willed away in seconds.

Oh, to those wondersome days,

when I would make friends and craft stories

with an ease long since lost.

When we force each word and every smile

it is no small loss.
