I am sitting in bed

reading the latest issue of my favourite superhero

My mum comes to turn off the light,

when I ask her if the hero is up above watching

but she says he doesn't exist

and then switches off the light

leaving me in the night.

I see the news the next day

we have gone to war with another

we are outnumbered a thousand to one

and my hero isn't coming.

I go upstairs.

I tie the curtain around my neck.

And fly out the window

I'm still waiting for superheroes
