Bulb

I placed the emotions there

For you to keep warm

At the base of your spine

I watched the bulb sprout

Watched the parasite grow while feasting

Spreading out like tree limbs

Moving to the rhythmic beat

of your day re-told

Spreading out, ivy-like, across your back

I watched you leaving

Smiling

Smiling at you while I can

Smiling at old emotions

Smiling because you kept them warm

Weeping

I rip the emotions out

Weeping

Pain at the base of my spine

Weeping at dead things

Weeping because nothing seems fiction anymore

Weeping into the rotting tentacles

of my dead emotions

Until you are gone

and I realise no new tears have been shed
