I met a man who had sailed the world
and stories fell from his lips.
He told me about the sapphire bays
and the sirens that misguided ships.
How hidden caves would glow with lights,
set there by smugglers inside them
how pirates were a constant fear
as well as the wrath of Poseiden.
He told me in his salty old way
that the sea is the toughest of teachers
but the lessons taught could never be bought
from some old university preacher.
I met someone who had walked on stars
all 'cause she followed her dreams.
She said she loved the sight and sound
of great huge movie screens.
She loved the shows with their shiny glow
that brought the unlikely to life
So off she went to hollywood
where glamourous living was rife.
She worked and worked and finally
she landed her dream position
she walked on stars, that lucky girl,
she fulfilled her whole life's mission.
I met a man who galloped on horses
for his day to day profession.
He traversed the paths between mountain towns
leading horses in neat procession.
He'd deliver supplies when the need would arise
for food to be brought from below,
and when the day came to close and the sun went away
he'd camp on a mountain plateau.
He asked if I'd seen the colour of gold
that comes from an alpine sunrise
he said that the colour is like nothing on earth
in the way that it lights up those skies.
I met a man who had done everything,
'do what you love' was his advice to me
for life can be short if you try to distort
the importance of things that are free.
He said that he'd seen things of his dreams
because he went out to find 'em
He'd made his way, day by day,
and watched his horizons widen.
He never regrets or looks back and says
'I wish I had gone into business,'
'cause life is short and enjoy what you can
for stories are the true form of riches.
