The world looks at me and says

I’m not a poet

Because I don’t get Donnie Darko

Because I don’t wear stovepipe jeans

Or wear ironic band tee’s

The world looks at me and says

I’m not a poet

Because I don’t write things

That are tragically trendy

Because I have respect

For people who run the spectrum

Because I am too young to have an opinion

The world looks at me and says

I’m not a poet

Because I have never claimed

To be a vessel

For anything other than coffee

Because I’ve never claimed to have the answers

Because I won’t tell you what to look for

Only what I see

So if the world doesn’t think I’m a poet

That’s fine

Because in my world

I’m exactly who

I want

To be
