I don't often see her

but I know that she cares

I know if I need her

she'll always be there.

My birth is so painful

and then there is no sleep

she comes and she goes

seems always on her feet

I grow and I grow

with her always there

she feeds me, she cleans me

I know that she cares

Now I am five and I'm ready

to go into the world

I feel brave, my hand steady

I skip and I twirl

I hold her soft hand

she bends down to kiss me

she turns and walks away

will she be back, will she miss me?

But she is always back

with a smile on her face

I needn't have worried

being left in this place

Now I am ten and I am leaving

my first night away from home

she packed all I'll be needing

and she asks me to phone

But, I'm busy with my friends

the fun just never ends

I don't phone, I don't care

for she will always be there.

Her eyes are so tired

her skin is so thin

but I don't care, I am stronger

than I have ever been

I leave home at twenty

in search for wealth and plenty

she asks me to call

but... hey

I am busy with friends

the fun never ends

I don't phone I don't care

she will always be there

So, I grow with this comfort

she grows with dispair

but I know that she loves me

and she will always be there

Things don't go so well for me

I am lonely and down

I head home, she just hugs me

I feel safe and sound

and I know that she loves me

and I know that she cares

and I know when I need her

she will always be there.
