They said you wouldn't stir

Nor would you wake

My only thought

Was that he was making a mistake

To take such a woman

An aunt, mother, grandmother

The glue to our family

The one that kept us together

But little did I know

You had so much will

You had to say, \"Happy Birthday\"

Before you could be still

You did what you could

To put a smile on my face

For I was only eight

When you took your place
