The Blue Curtains
By Merve Derya Yazicioglu
“Oh she was such a lovely girl’ the old woman said before she left the funeral. Many friends were mourning. ‘There was no way out of this anymore’ thought Thomas. Well, he was not the only one who
got into this filthy game since the others have planned the whole event for Cara. The girl who is laying in the coffin thats what others have thought. On the other hand, Cara was at her basement in
flesh, and wishing that nobody was suspected anything. But they were not so smart to figure out every little detail. The main problem was to keep the plan on move. Of course to do that, she had to
change herself a bit and a new identity.
“WHAT YOU GUYS WERE THINKING’ Laura was shouting at Cara. She was right at some point. It was not so smart to fake a death just because you guys want to disappear.
“We knew that you wouldn’t get it Laura” said Thomas and rolling his eyes.
“This is easier, no-one knows-no one is hurt. No big deal!” I was chilling on the couch as it was nothing. I was relieved for the first time, it was a different feeling of not having to do what others thought i should do. I could see Laura’s anxiety on her eyes but there was nothing to do but to disappear. I approached to her and looked her in the eye which would make her believe me.
“Look Laura, we have thought about it for 5 months and I know it must be difficult for you to accept it but you know I don’t have anything to lose anymore. All of my money are gone, my house and I have never had a family that was a major part of my life.”
“I get that, but then what about me?”
“What about you?” said Thomas and went to kitchen to look at the blue curtains.
Cara looked at Thomas and then to the curtains which reminded how it feels like to be her.
“Cara, you are not here again. This is a struggle to talk to you” Laura approached to the door and left them alone for couple of minutes. Before Laura was leaving the the room, Cara felt the absence in her life that she knew it wouldn’t be last. Blue was always there and followed her. Both Thomas and Laura were admirable friends but she felt this way and this was a must for her to continue with her journey. Which have never happened in reality. The blue was her past, present and future.
