In hindsight, you are a better person now because of mistakes you made in the past. Realising that just makes things seem brighter.

Hindsight

- - -

Should you find
Your lonesome self
Stopping where you tread
Turning back to look at
From where you came instead
You’d see a ghostly figure
Standing there like you
Waiting for the next step
Your path will lead it to
This shadow walks your footprints
It never truly leaves
And in its arms it carries
Regrets, Forgets and Griefs
You might decide to question
This ghastly lonely soul
Why it came to follow you
And where it plans to go
But it would never answer
It has no mouth to speak
Just arms to hold its treasures
And two eyes, watching; bleak
Distressed, you journey onwards
Perhaps leave it behind
But every step is echoed
A sound to just remind
You turn and cry in fury
‘Leave me! Do not stare,
It drives me to my ends
Simply knowing you are there!’
The creature points towards you
And suddenly you know
This shadow is called Hindsight
Existing just to show
Each person what their life has been
And where they have gone wrong
They whisper not your secrets
But your own life story’s song
You gaze upon its treasures
Of Heartbreak, Rage and Flaws
And think, ‘You know, in hindsight
I’m much better than I was!’
