One of the biggest issues in the United States currently is whether or not gay/lesbian marriage should be legal. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it, but this essay will address some arguments against it and show the corresponding counter argument. The argument I hear the most is \"It's unnatural.\". But is it really? Some people are born like that, just like some people are born double jointed, or need glasses. But do we pass laws against those people, giving them less rights? No! These people are accepted in society just as much as if they were born \"naturally\", and so should gay and lesbian people. Another common argument is the \"It would ruin the definition of marriage! Why can't they just say they love each other and NOT get married?\" They could do that, but why can't straight people? I believe marriage is when two people love each other and want to be with each other for ever. Those two people can be any sexual orientation. It wouldn't ruin the definition. The final argument is the \"God\" argument. These people are religious people who say that the Bible says gay marriage isn't right. However, not everyone has the same religion, and the United States has government separate from religion. There are a multitude of religions and non-religious people in this country who have different views about gay marriage, and we shouldn't base our laws off a single one. To conclude, I hope this issue clears up soon, not just in laws, but in neighborhoods, schools, office buildings, and anywhere where people aren't accepting of others.
