From Dawn to Dusk
It was Six in the morning,
In some far off far-away land.
Where children seldom play,
And the air is dry as sand.
On point in a village,
We stood by, for the go!
The hand up was a sign,
And my heart began to crow.
The silence was deafening,
And every movement made you flinch.
I felt like a small insect,
Covering ground from inch to inch.
A rustle from One hundred yards,
Came bursting through the air.
I felt a numb sensation,
And the heat upon my hair.
I lay there on the ground smoking,
And rolled to put it out.
As I rolled to far to my left,
Marcus was facedown down, silent and out.
I looked out in the deep red sky,
And was soothed by the silent peace.
Saw, Marcus standing close by,
With my Mom and Uncle Reese.
I heard yelling from above,
Don't die, just please hang on.
I felt my pulse slipping away,
AsI watched the rising sun.
I felt my body rise from the ground,
held tightly by my squad.
And they placed me in the chopper with prayers,
And I held tightly to my beliefs in God.
"God you made me from the ashes of heaven,
And molded me through my life,
You gave me loving parents,
And friends and my loving, beautiful wife.
Please hold them near your heart,
I am sorry for my hatred and disgust.
Please keep my brothers safe from harm,
As they roam from dawn to dusk!" Amen
