SELF - REFLECTION by Megan DeVoy

Look into the mirror, ask yourself, what do I see? What does our reflection say about modern society? How far have we come? Since evolving opposable thumbs Intelligence was our Divine gift, it made man different Instead it is wasted Wasted on man's greed On his need for instant gratification Jersey Shore marathons or the latest Dance Moms on demand Real issues swept under the rug Buying a new app is like buying a drug Politics so extreme Politicians with hidden schemes Carpetbaggers peddling a twisted American dream As a society, we are a derailed train Certifiably, criminally insane A young man gunned down, killed in cold blood Because it is a basic right to carry a gun? If the boy was white, he'd still be alive As long as man has eyes, he cannot be colorblind Americans should be enraged! Diffusion of responsibility allows us to disengage Being passive ultimately prevents any real change Ignorance can be bliss but change can start here When I look in the mirror I want to be PROUD! Proud to be American and proud to be a human being The law protects an individual's right to bear arms Arm yourself with your own opinion A voice is a powerful weapon The world does not need to own guns for protection If we rely on self-reflection
