This is a random horror, I've been messing around with for the last few days. It starts like a prologue, following the slaughter of several teenagers in the woods.

OUT OF THE WOODS

  1. EXT. WOODLANDS/FOREST-DAY

There is an area in the woods which is being surrounded by police tape. Inside the tape there are three butchered bodies, covered in blood. Two men walk under the tape. The first man is larger and dressed in a suit; he is DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR MATTHEWS. The second man is smaller, more rotund and is dressed in casual clothes; he is DETECTIVE SMITH.

SMITH:

These are the first bodies that were discovered, sir. There are three others further ahead in the woods. I have to say that this is possibly one of the worst cases in my history of being on the force.

Smith leads Matthews to the first of the bodies, identified as NATE LEESE. His dead body is covered in blood. Both men inspect the body.

Matthews:

This is going get a lot of press, Smith. Are you sure you can hack it?

There is a rustle in the bushes nearby. The two men move back cautiously, signalling for back up. A girl stumbles out of the bushes in distress. She is in her late teens. Her clothes are torn and bloody, she looks deranged. This is JODIE GAYNOR.

JODIE:

(Throws herself at one of the officers) Help me. Please. He’s after me . . . Get me away from him. He’s going to kill me . . . He said he was going to kill me.

Jodie backs away from the bushes, pushing the detectives back. The detectives share a look and turn to look at the girl.

MATTHEWS:

First things first, what’s your name? And what happened here?

JODIE:

Jodie. My name’s Jodie Gaynor.

  1. EXT.WOODLANDS/FOREST - NIGHT – 12 hours before events in scene 1

This is in a smallish clearing within the woods. There are 2 or 3 tents around a camp fire. A radio is playing chart songs. Also sitting around the campfire are two boys in their late teens, beside the taller of them is a pack of beer that is opened. He is wearing a black rock t-shirt and ripped jeans – this is NATE LEESE. The boy sitting next to him is wearing normal clothes; he is much slighter than Nate, and also appears to be very drunk. His name is JUDE PARRISH.

JUDE:

Give me another drink, mate. I said I was gonna get wasted tonight.

Nate pulls a face in distaste, clearly reluctant to give Jude another beer as he has been drinking for some time. Nate pushes the pack of beer slightly further out of Jude’s reach.

NATE:

I think that you’ve drunk a little bit too much this time. Maybe you should slow down for a while?

JUDE:

(His temper flaring) What? Who do you think–

From nearby, but out of sight, someone is crashing around the bushes singing “Hey Jude” drunkenly. He clambers through the bushes to the pair. He is happily drunk and amused. He drapes himself over Jude, still singing. His name is LIAM O’CONNORS.

LIAM:

I love you, man.

Jude shoves him off, punching him the shoulder playfully and laughing. It is clear that the two of them are good friends.

From where Liam came through in the bushes, a small, blonde girl follows. This is SAMANTHA DONOHUE. She is slightly drunk and staggers around before she collapses to the floor and sits down. She begins to giggle as Liam begins to dance to the music. He pulls her up and the pair dance together.

A girl comes out from the tent behind them. This is Jodie.

JODIE:

Do you know where Melissa is? (Looks at Samantha and Liam) She went out to find you two a couple of hours ago.

Samantha and Liam look at each other quickly.

SAMANTHA:

Me and Liam didn’t see anyone ‘til we came back here. I thought she was still here with you. Maybe she got lost.

A scream echoes through the woods. All five of them look scared. All of them are looking in the direction that the scream came from.

JODIE:

That was Melissa. I know it was her.

She tries to run off in the direction of the scream, but Jude grabs her arm and yanks her back.

JUDE:

Where do you think you’re going?

JODIE:

(Pulls her arm out of Jude’s grip) Melissa’s –

JUDE:

Probably just pissing around like she always does.

NATE:

But what if she isn’t, idiot? She could be in trouble.

Nate stands between Jodie and Jude. It looks as if there is going to be a fight between the two boys. Liam walks between them, pushing them away from each other.

LIAM:

Guys, guys calm down, okay? How about we go check it out and if there’s nothing wrong, it doesn’t matter.

Jude walks over to the chair that Nate was sitting in earlier and grabs a beer from the pack. He opens it and begins drinking.

JUDE:

You go if you want, I’m staying here.

Jodie, Nate and Liam begin to walk off in the direction of the previous screaming. Liam stops and looks back at Samantha who is sitting next to Jude, smiling. She has a beer in one hand and the other on Jude’s arm. Liam turns back, realising that the others have carried on walking. He runs to catch up with them.

  1. EXT. WOODLANDS - NIGHT

Liam, Nate and Jodie are walking around, searching for Melissa. They appear to be tired and have possibly been doing this for some time as it is much darker now.

JODIE:

Melissa? Mel? Are you out there? It’s me, Jodie.

Liam is standing much closer to Nate, no longer focused on the task at hand.

LIAM:

Do you think that Sam and Jude are gonna do anything? I mean, it’s not like we’re going out, but I really like her, Nate. You don’t think that Jude’s gonna try it on with her, do you? I mean the way they were looking at each other –

NATE:

I’m sure they’re not doing anything – Melissa?! –it’s probably just in your mind. Melissa? How about focusing on finding Mel?

Nate looks around for Jodie who seems to have disappeared. Now, he seems much more panicked.

NATE (CONT.):

Jodie? Jodes? (He searches around for Jodie) Jodie, where are you? Jodie?!

Jodie appears again from the bushes, appearing somewhat confused by why her name was being called. Nate smiles at her, seeming to be much happier.

NATE (CONT.):

Sorry. I thought that you’d disappeared like Melissa.

Liam is still unfocused on what is happening around him and continues to complain about Samantha and Jude. Jodie continues to look around for Melissa. But Nate, instead of looking around for Melissa, keeps sneaking glances at Jodie. It appears that he has romantic feelings for her.

JODIE:

What? Why do you keep looking at me?

Nate looks extremely uncomfortable as Jodie meets his eyes. He looks away, blushing awkwardly. She then puts her hand to his face so that he can look at her properly. She leaves her hand on his cheek.

JODIE (CONT.):

(Softly) Why do you keep looking at me, Nate?

NATE:

I . . . I . . .

Before Nate can get out a full sentence, he and Jodie crash into Liam. The pair are about to lay into him when they see what he’s staring at. Samantha and Jude are lying in a pool of their own blood, their throats slit. A bloody hand print is on the tent.

JODIE:

Oh my God!

Liam runs off to a tree gagging and vomiting. Nate follows Liam to where he is bent over by a tree, gagging. He places his hand on his bag.

NATE:

Are you okay, Liam? I know you and Samantha were –

LIAM:

Don’t – Don’t talk about them like that. I just want to remember them as they were – not like that.

NATE:

I know what you it was just –

LIAM:

Yeah, I know.

Jodie walks to the pair, her face emotionless.

JODIE:

I think that maybe we should go. We don’t know if whoever – you know – is going to come back and I sure as hell don’t want to know.

Liam straightens up and looks at Jodie, then at Nate. He pauses for a second, thinking about what to say.

LIAM:

She’s right. We need to get help. Fast. That’s what Sam and Jude would’ve wanted.

A crack of a twig is heard from not too far way. All three look at each other.

LIAM (CONT.):

Let’s go. Now!

Another crack is heard from closer by. All three begin to run; Jodie and Nate are in front, Liam behind. Liam stumbles over a log. The other pair don’t notice and continue to run ahead. Liam shakes himself off and looks around, but the others are long gone. He begins to run in the other direction, unaware of the rope around his foot.

The rope tightens around his foot as it pulls him up. Liam is left dangling from a branch of a tree. He struggles to get free.

  1. EXT. WOODLANDS - EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING

Both Jodie and Nate are running as fast as they can, breathing heavily. Nate stops, waiting for Jodie to catch up with him. He is exhausted. Jodie catches up, breathing fairly normally. Nate looks back for Liam who is nowhere in sight.

NATE:

Where’s Liam?

JODIE:

He was behind us, wasn’t he? (Looks around) Maybe he’ll catch up with us in a second

Nate looks somewhat worried.

NATE:

What if he’s lost?

Nate turns back to begin to follow the route that they had come from.

JODIE:

Nate?

Nate turns back to look at Jodie. However, she hits him over the head with a rock. Jodie drops the rock and begins to drag him away by the arm.

  1. EXT. WOODLANDS - EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING

Liam is hanging upside down from the tree. He looks confused and disorientated but he is still struggling against the rope and screaming. He stops screaming for a second and looks relieved.

LIAM:

Oh, it’s you. (He smiles) Can you help me down?

A gloved hand holding a knife comes closer to him. His eyes widen. The knife slits his throat. He is dead.

  1. EXT.WOODLANDS CAMP - EARLY MORNING

Nate is tied to a tree by some rope at the campsite. A duck tape gag is covering his mouth. He opens his eyes, clearly confused and freaked out by what is happening. He tries to move, but nothing happens. He begins to struggle again the rope, trying to scream.

Jodie appears in front of him, holding an axe or a knife. She kneels in front of him and frowns, placing the weapon to her side.

JODIE:

There’s no point in doing that. No one will be able to hear you.

Jodie puts her hand on his cheek in what can only be perceived as a loving gesture. He flinches away from her touch. She sighs.

JODIE (CONT.):

You know, I didn’t want to do this. Not at all, especially not to you Nate. You were kind to me and made me care for you. I think you cared for me too, but I had to have my revenge. You and your friends made my sister, Eve Freemont – you do remember her don’t you? – kill herself. So I decided that you needed to pay.

She raises the knife from her side.

JODIE (CONT.):

I’m sorry.

She slices his throat and then sits beside him as he dies, holding his hand as he dies.

  1. EXT. WOODLAND - DAYTIME

The three bodies are lying in the clearing. It is swarming with police, forensics etc. Jodie is stood with the detectives. A forensic scientist opens up the tent.

FORENSIC SCIENTIST:

We’ve found another one!

The detectives and Jodie look towards the tent.

MATTHEWS:

Do you know who’s in there?

JODIE:

(Sadly) Yeah, that’s Melissa. Melissa Carson.

MATTHEWS:

(Looks at Smith) I think that you should check that out.

Matthews begins to lead away Jodie to the ambulance, not so far away. Before she leaves, Jodie looks back at the crime scene and smiles.
