We ran through pitch black woods and streets, and I laughed and told you to look at the sky. It was a pretty swirl of clouds in grey and purple. I said "It looks like a nebula." You smiled, "What does that even mean?" We heard the sirens and saw the flashing lights in the distance. We were smart enough to get away, but not sober enough to make it easy. So, we ran and ran. Through fields, and forests, and creeks, and eventually cul-de-sacs, 'till we saw Runswyck right in front of us. And in the safety of the light I saw pink lines and navy circles all over my arms and legs. But I didn't mind at all because I was happy, and you were freaking out in the corner, "Godammit," you said, "We fucking did it!" And you looked at me and smiled, and our lips met for the first time in two years. Sweet nothings were whispered, and meaningless words were said, and everything was ignorant, drunken bliss. But then liquid crimson was rolling down my ivory skin and all I could do was laugh and remember the songs we'd sung. I felt my eyes change to icy green, the translucent color they turn right before I cry, but I wasn't going to let that happen. You can only see me laugh, not cry. So, I went to bed and you came with me but we didn't say a word. And when the yellow beamed through my window the next morning we were best friends again and last night was our secret. But that's what hurt, I think
