Don't lose it

Oh please, Oh please; promise you’ll never settle down

And lose the fire in your stomach, the bright flames of youth.

Through the years and years, when home becomes a ghost town,

Be wild and be free, don’t ever take your heart off of your sleeve.

In the midst of The Trials, wandering in the darkness of a winter night,

Shivering and close to frostbite, trekking through the fucking badlands.

Wherever I end up, when it’s all said and done, I know you’ll find me,

Or whatever remains of me, just a fragment or maybe a soundbite.

Set off in my Elantra, location off, I don’t know where the fuck I’m going,

Impulse gets the best of me, sometimes, I’m working on my self control.

Full time hours during the week, yet turning up with the homeboys on weekends,

Unless the NFL is on, then I fuse with my couch for the day, in Do Not Disturb Mode.

Carry the stress in my shoulders, sometimes I just wanna fucking explode,

They all say that they wish they were my age again, just without my modern problems.

Oh please, Oh please; promise you’ll never settle down

And lose the fire in your stomach, the bright flames of youth.

Through the years and years, when home becomes a ghost town,

Be wild and be free, don’t ever take your heart off of your sleeve.

Not easy to do, but there's something to be said for staying true to yourself and being who 'you' are. Excellent write, MW.

It's hard sometimes to stay true to yourself and to remember who you are. Thanks for reading Hully :)
