Elodie stands by the window, looking out into the night sky. She counts the stars in her head, but keeps getting lost and starting over. Her long red hair is held at the nape of her neck in a braid by a length of yellow ribbon. Behind her stands Zack, a guy around six feet with black hair that spikes all over the place and the most gorgeous green eyes.

“Zack,” She says softly. “Why is a Raven like a writing desk?” She turns to look at him, crimson hues staring him down, though she is nearly a foot shorter than him. He looks at her, eyes blinking once, then twice.

“I don’t know, you tell me.” He says in that soft voice of his, a voice of which could melt her heart into a little puddle. “Think, Zack, think. What do the two have in common?” She urges him, turning back to the window now. She rests her elbow on the windowsill and her chin in her palm, thinking quietly. She then speaks to him once more; “Kenny.. He used to tell me they were family, but I never understood how he thought that.”

“He’s insane.”

“Perhaps. I always thought of how Kenny had casted a spell on his pumpkin, and created his own fairytale.”

“What do you mean?”

“Everyone starts out alone. They strive to make friends. That’s when they cast their spell, hoping it will hit the right pumpkin.”

“You and Silas... You guys have your own spell... You guys have never needed anyone but each other, and until you became a vampire, you guys could never be told apart.”

“I think that’s just it. That’s how it works, ya know? All this is so new.. I think that’s why everything is as it is.. George’s spell… How long do you think it will last?” Zack shrugs.

Silas and Alan step into the tea room, nearly holding hands but not quite. Silas wears an elegant blue ball gown, while George wears a navy renaissance tuxedo. Elodie smiles and lift the hem of her matching orange gown, Zack smirks. He is wearing a black version of Alan’s tux. Elodie steps over to Silas but she is already clinging to Alan’s arm. Elodie’s hand falls short of hers and a frown crosses her face.

“Someday.. She will realize she is going to have to take the first step on her own.. And that’s when the spell of our own little pumpkin will be broken.” Elodie murmurs softly to Zack. He nods and then follow quietly. Then head to the ballroom, meeting up with Jamie, George, and Sara. Elodie looks to the ceiling and thinks ‘How soon?’
