I was about 13 when I wrote this poem. I was very depressed and really going through a transitioning period from middle school to high school. Most of my poems from that age are rather dark and reflected just how unstable my mind was. Looking back and reading this poem, it's amazing that I survived that age. And this poem is still one of my favorites because of how mature the sound is, despite the heavy subject. Comments and suggestions are appreciated! Enjoy! :)

I am a Lonely Bird, shivering in these winds,

Hoping that I'll find a way back to me.

But no one seems to hear it, all my pain.

No one sees what this life has

Done to me; I've lost all my faith.

And no one even hears the screams,

From all those lashes on my back.

As time slips by, I begin to realize all that

I've become. I am a Lonely Bird,

Flying higher in the sky,

Coming closer to demise.

And if you can trust these words

You’ll know I'm dying.

Slowly as the clock is ticking,

Youth is fading fast.

Then I realize all that I am right now.

I am a Lonely Bird. Caught between

North and south, not knowing whether

One is right or one is wrong.

I, too weak to know my own faults;

Still live to see this precious sun.

How I weep, in anger, in sadness, misery.

Screaming my pain to this world,

But no one listens. And in the dark corners

Of the earth, I dwell and wallow in my state,

Fully realizing what I am, what I've become.

I am and always will be a Lonely Bird.
