8 minutes to midnight

Written deep in thought,

Cast in gleaming crystal,

A friend in crowd sought.

4 minutes to midnight

And all that has gone past,

Cries of hurtful joys

In hopeful lyrics that last.

Think of those around you,

Those just born and died.

Someone loved who’s lost,

Give a hand to guide

1 minute to midnight.

10 seconds to midnight

A Grandfather looks to the sky,

He winks at a familiar star

And says goodbye.

2 seconds to midnight

A less distant heartbeat

Sounds to your ears.

You move closer

To surrender your fears.

The chimes of midnight

Pound in your chest,

Fireworks rocket

And you forget all the rest.

No dark faces

Can be seen anymore,

As sparks erupt

And alight the core.

New Year bestows

Much to miss,

Yet the world’s not cold

Of a passionate kiss.
