The Ukranian

Ivan, you were my shooting star

So young and living a curious life

A life of a foriegner trying to find your place

In this world so full of hate and disgrace

Your beautiful twinkling light brown eyes

Showed me that you do not despise

Even a simple thing that cannot replace

The ironic smiles that graced your face

So tall and strong, yet easily breakable

And it makes me wonder how you were able

To turn your back on the country you’re from

And to say goodbye to all that you’ve loved

To bring yourself to a higher level

And to try so hard to remain so stable

I look up to people like you

And in the short time I knew you, I fell for you

But now you’re gone, away from me

Going back to your home country

I wish you well along your way

And hopefully we shall meet again someday
