Chances

By M. E. Riddle

I’m taking a chance

At finding romance

I’m starting to dance

With everyone I see.

Counting the cost

Watching the boss

Secretaries spy me

That’s where I’ll be.

Workday has end

Commingle with friends

Craning to see

Ones who spied me.

We meet up at last

I pour her a glass

The conversation lasts

Until discovering that.

She knows I’m the one

Who only seeks fun

Scans the field

For another who’s real.

I leave alone

Knowing at home

Clinker my cat

Is the one who will dance.
