Flat Tire Observations

By M. E. Riddle

I cannot walk with sand in my shoe

Or appreciate love when feeling blue

I cannot dance when we’re apart

Or think clearly with pain in my heart.

A ribbon of headlights approach in the night

Yet no one stops to assist in my plight

You sit waiting for my car on the hill

Imagined rejection, a tough little pill.

A dead bee is waiting, tail in the air

Last act of defiance, someone will care

The one who stops to assist in bare feet

Will join me in pity, we’ll stand there and weep.
