Killing Gazelles

By M. E. Riddle

Graffiti on psyche walls

Dark flowing wine

Humanity shakes off

A dark primordial time

Traits from a primitive mind.

To kill for meat

For children to eat

To rape to mate

And procreate

Shapes from the past.

Neanderthal nine to five

Polite and peaceful

An evolving tribe

Decent murderers

Spiritualism died.

We accept hate

In color and race

Will always hunger

For the blood of another

And the kill of gazelles.

Consciousness killers

Listening to cave walls

In the new darkness

Lost walking halls

In the new dawn.
