Starvation Bay

By M. E. Riddle

Death haunts us,

Ten thousand pound weight,

Late April,

‘Ought eighty-eight.

Little is left,

Of the main rudder,

In waning days,

We dined on our brothers.

Thousands of miles,

Of leaded canned weight,

H.M.S. Terra,

All laid to waste.

To the sea, dusty root,

And hair of sand,

The hand of Franklin,

Lost in Greenland.
