Tragedy in America

By M. E. Riddle

A cultural phenomenon

Tragedy in America

This cowboy rage

Always in Colorado.

A gunman opens fire

In a school, a church, a theater

Always the same

Opening a hole in the world.

The Vatican responded

So did France, China, and the rest-

Argentina, Japan, Russia, India

I myself detest.

The NRA will do their best

To defend the right to bear arms

I will never understand

Their mindset of harm.

This American culture

It’s difficult to fathom

We murder our children

And the world remains candor.
