~Mad Lee~

Mad Lee was a hermit, who lived alone in a decrepit mansion at the edge of town. Rumours were rife about the wild-eyed man. Some folks said that he was a magician who summoned powers of darkness to wreck havoc upon his neighbours. Others called him a mad doctor, who could restore life to foul corpses from the local cemetery. No respctable citizen in town had anything to do with Mad Lee.

Then one year, a new family moved in town with a sensuous and seductive daughter, Rose, who caught Mad Lee's eye. He showered the maiden with gifts- goblets of pure gold, necklaces of pearl, and a pot of daisies which never shreded a single petal. Despite all the gifts, Rose fell in love with another man, Hans, a young handsome guy. A week after meeting, they eloped, leaving behind a stunned Mad Lee.

After returning from their elopement, Rose and Hans threw a big ball and invited everybody in town for the party. While Rose was busy in waltzing with Hans, she heard a clap of thunder. Lightning flashed again and again. All of a sudden, the doors blew open, and a breeze whriled in, bringing with it the smell of dead decaying
figures.

Mad Henry loomed inside. People gleaming red with anger. He was followed by the grotesque figures who came in marching two by two inside. Their eye sockets
glowed with blue fire, as they surrounded the room.

Two of the corpses threw Hans at the feet of their lord. Mad Lee drew a silver-bladed knife from his back and casually cut Hans throat from ear to ear. Rose screamed and ran toward her dying husband, by pushing away the foul, stinking corpses.

"Kill us both!", she yelled.

But Mad Lee picked the lass out of the pool of blood surrounding her dead husband, and carried her in the thunder. Red eyes still gleaming. The corpses also followed their master. The thunder and lightning faded away as the alchemist and his dead companions vanished from the scene.

Rose's and Hans's parents gathered a mob to look out for Rose and Mad Lee. They even hired a team for this particular task, but they drew blank. Even after searching for them for days like freaks, they did not get any clue about them. It seemed at the moment as both of them had wiped out from the Earth with those corpses. Eventually, both the families lost hope.

Hans was buried in the local cemetery. No one in the town ever spoke and dared imagine of what had happened to the poor Rose.

The year after the ball, a timid knock sounded on Rose's home. As her father opened the door, he saw a gaunt and a feeble figure, which was Rose! Her tongue had been cut so she could not speak. Her clothes were torn.
Her stunning beauty had lost somewhere. There was a gleam of satisfaction in Rose's eyes when she drew a silver-bladed knife from her back. The knife which everybody saw last time in Mad Lee's hands. That gleam of satisfaction in Rose's eyes was enough to explain others that the streaks of blood that surrounded the knife were those of Mad Lee's. Rose had become victorious in avenging the death of her husband from the black magician.

That night, Rose died in her sleep with a beautiful smile upon her ravaged face.
