By Mike Burton

The fire within you burns very bright

even after everyone is done for the night.

Before anyone could say a word or even stop it;

your thoughts were everywhere and no one could top it.

Your words spread throughout the auditorium, campus, and the trees;

like they were blown by a hurricane or a very strong breeze.

Your statements showed that nothing would ever be the same,

and someone is accountable, someone is to blame.

You use words like tricky toys;

setup your opponents and then destroy.

No arguments or rebuttles remained;

only your fire existed and stayed maintained.

Your voice was the only one that was heard;

all the others sounded like crickets or chirpings from a bird.

All of this could have been civil and tame;

but I don't think that anyone could put out your flame.

The auditorium became that of a giant empty crater;

it had been taken by the great debater.
