Between the light and the fire,

And in the smokeless heat,

There is a place where lovers meet.

I drew her there.

She met me there.

And so you trade away,

Another part, a prayer to stay.

So often lost.

So often beyond all cost.

She slips inside tonight.

Lost and looking for the light.

Drawing her to your breast,

You give her everything undressed.

And so you trade away,

Another part, a prayer to stay.

So often lost.

So often beyond all cost.

The night fades in every sky.

Falling from the sun’s new eye.

Stars once to guide the way,

Falling in love’s new day.

And so you trade away,

Another part, a prayer to stay.

So often lost.

So often beyond all cost.

Yet another part, another prayer.

Now between the light and the fire.

That is where we are.

That will be my star.
