a cause and effect paper of why people drop out of school

Dropping Out of School

Some people don’t feel the need to sit in class all day or even try and learn at all. School can be one of the most important times of our lives. Although some don’t think that way, some think it’s a waste of time. Students drop out of school maybe because of financial problems at home, feeling like they aren’t good enough, needing to raise their own families, or maybe a relative became sick and no one can take care of them other than the student.

“Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. That’s a student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day,” stated dosomething.org. Some students around our area had to drop out because their families needed help with income. Although many people who drop out of high school can only get lower paying because they do not have a college degree.

According to nces.ed.gov, if you have less than a high school diploma, you will earn on average around 22,860 a year. With a high school diploma or equivalent, you will earn around 29,950. Some college education can bump it up to 31,990. Even just an associate’s degree can boost that on up to around 37,030 a year. Therefore if you can hold out until you’re out of school, you would be much better off.

Some students feel like they are not smart enough to finish school, therefore they drop out. Some also start their own families at a young age so they stay home and take care of them. For some students that drop out, if they decide to go back it is a lot harder on them. They must get there GED before they can even go on to college.

In some cases, students leave school because family members are sick and they are the only ones to take care of them. Many people don’t realize how rough some families have it. Some families have to take it day by day.

Not all students have the dedication that others have; most students in my school are there because if not, their parents would be taken to jail.  Students feel like they are wasting their time in school. Many people also think that they will never get out of this town, therefore why put forth all my effort to something I am never going to use.
