I feel as though laws against texting and driving should be strictly enforced everywhere.

Since the first decade of the 21st century, text messaging has become one of the world’s favorite ways of communicating to family and friends. There is an average of 13 texts and messages sent a day fro every man, woman, and child in America.Instead of waiting to get home to text or simply put one’s phone on speaker to converse with another human being, people are stating to text as they are operating a motor vehicle.More accidents are occurring due to this communication while driving. There are some Laws prohibiting texting while driving but only in certain areas.Laws that prohibit texting and driving must be enforced in all states.
The brain is one of the most important organs in a human’s body.It enables everyone to do all sorts of things; but a human’s mind was not meant to multitask to such a degree to where a person can text and drive without any problems or risks. When driving a motor vehicle there are so many different precautions to take while on the road.Like for instance construction school zones, traffic, and objects on the roads such as: tire sheds, nails, glass, animals, etc.).With a phone in one’s hand texting, it’s kind of hard to watch for those things and pay attention to what is being sent in a text message.Texting while driving is so bad to where it is getting to the point where “Nearly half of all Americans who use text messaging say they have typed or read a text message while operating a moving vehicle,” according to a June 2010 poll conducted by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. It is said by the PBS NewsHour that there is an estimated number of 250,000 Americans are texting and driving.
Last year there was a teen named Mandy who was one day driving a couple of her friends around in her new car. They all had their phones out texting—including Mandy.Neither one of them had their seat belts on.The first couple of text messages Mandy sent were okay; she was still driving perfectly fine, so she kept sending more and more text messages to whoever it was she was texting.Since Mandy was paying way more attention to her phone than on what she was doing –driving—she failed to read some of the warning road work signs she had passed, causing the car to drive right into a ditch full of metal scraps. The car tumbled and rolled until it made a terrible stop at the bottom of the ditch.Since the girls weren’t wearing seat belts, they were tumbled and tossed inside the car.Sadly they all died from head injuries and from a lot of open wounds and cuts from the metal scraps.Texting while driving is a big distraction that can cause grave danger.
There are thousands of wrecks that occur each year.A fraction of the wrecks are caused by motorists that text while driving.People who text and drive are eight times more likely to crash. One may think as long as the message is simply a one to two worded reply that it ‘s okay, but it isn’t.Someone or something can jump in front of the car at any moment and if the driver isn’t alert, a serious accident may happen. For example in 2005 a man was driving a truck while texting his girlfriend. The two were having an argument through the text messages. They were arguing about picking her up from work (she was mad at the fact that he was late to pick her up).So he got to the parking lot of her job.He was driving and texting, she was walking and texting.Since their eyes were glued to their phones he didn’t see her walking and ran right over her; killing her.The man’s eyes were so focused on the phone, that he couldn’t even see her walking right in front of the car.Even though the man wasn’t hurt he still killed a poor and defenseless woman.
As of September 2010, 30 states in America, as well as Washington, D.C., have passed laws prohibiting text messaging for all drivers. That’s not enough; all of the states should have this law passed since people all over America are texting while driving.People all over America are dying or getting seriously injured because of the ignorance of some American’s.Texting while driving is a huge distraction whether people want to believe it or not.It can cause harm and danger to the ones texting and driving and others.Unless texting while driving bans are passed and enforced, supporters warn, “Generations of drivers will grow up with the idea that texting and driving are normal risk-free practices.”
