The Story of Fourteen

I took the first cigarette

I took the drag without regret

I let the hands touch me

I told myself this is the way it should be

One pill, they said, to make you feel alive

It did, this I can't deny

But the cigarettetook my mind

The touches crossed the line

I live off the pill

I feel like I always will

But I keep saying yes

To the smoking wisp

To the fingers against my skin

To the pills on my lips

My heart breaks

My body aches

Actions filled with pride

Just going for the dangerous ride

I was told to stay away

But, addicted, I disobey

A friend tells me the truth

Tells me how I should spend my youth

I won't listen and trust the one who loves me

I'm becoming something I never thought I'd be

The child I used to be smiled and was free

The child never knew about fourteen
