I was experimenting with writing a beginning paragraph from one of the activities from "Spilling Ink" by Anne Mazer and Ellen Potter. This is what I came up with.

The rain stopped as suddenly as it had started. It was a heavy downpour, but only lasted about 5 minutes. Faolan had stepped outside in the storm, not caring how wet her hair became, or if her make-up began to run down her face. She had come out for inspiration. To think. The ground was smooth and damp beneath her feet, and the water splashed as she walked through deep puddles. She could hear no cars, no birds, and no other form of life. This was a quiet street, but it was strangely welcoming. The brick houses on her left stretched towards the horizon, all cut out like gingerbread, but each was decorated in the families' unique style. On her right, trees loomed over the sidewalk, casting thick shadows that danced as the wind played with the leaves and branches. These trees we strong and mighty. They stood guard over a soft park, just beyond the viewers sight. Faloan dragged her feet towards the trees, smiling as she smelled the wet barks and damp leaves. She could taste the mown grass in the air and longed for her feet to glide through to silky grass. This field was not her destination, for her feet had no plan. She would wander wherever she felt, and let her mind dance, searching for a subject for her next piece or art. She had a fair few passions, and drawing was one of them. Whether realism or abstract, she didn't care. However her hand guided the pencil was how she was going to draw. But what inspired her this time, she was yet to find out.
