When we are young

We are taught something in this world

That bullying is wrong and causes harm

And yet the world does it

It discriminates all the time

Against the change in life

Whether one is gay or straight

Or even a different race

So why can’t the world be different

Where it doesn’t matter who one is

Why does it matter to the world

Whether someone is different from the rest

All anyone wants is a place to belong

Where one can be themselves and not be judged

Where one can feel what they want to feel

And not hate themselves for being who they are

But that’s not how the world works

People judge and hate the difference

An because of that hate…

This world has bleeding wrists

Over time there has been more deaths

And instead of being caused by another

Death is welcomed by that one person

The one who isn’t accepted by the world

And yet discrimination continues

No matter how much blood is shed

Hate burns deep within the soul

Until someone dies in the world

All anyone wants is to belong

To be rescued from the hate and discrimination

To be able to walk with pride as to whom they are

And to feel what they want to feel…
