Levi and Jade are getting ready to leave Tartarus. In ‘Ascending from Hell: To The Surface’ they will cross ‘The Acheron’, the river that seperates the World of the Living from the World of the Dead with Charon helping the dead to cross the barrier. This time the dead will go the other way. Join Levi and Jade with the crossing of ‘The Acheron’.

*This is the second part of ‘Ascending from Hell’. It is sort of an introduction to the following part where the characters will be in the World of the Living.*

*This is my admission to Sai Ryoko’s contest. I know it is not the best but I hope you guys still like it.*

Jade:

Charon, could you take us back over ‘The Acheron’, please?

Charon:

Have you got permission from Hades to leave Tartarus?

Jade:

Yes, we have. So could you please take us to the world of the living? It’s quite important.

Charon:

Well, I cannot take the three of you over at once. Also keep in mind that you cannot return the way you leave. I cannot take you back to Tartarus without receiving an obolus of the both of you.

Levi:

Don’t worry, Charon. We won’t forget to bring an obolus each.

Charon:

Okay. Who shall I take over first?

Levi:

Ladies first, of course. At least, Jade, if you want to.

Jade:

I'll go first. Please send Cerberus after me because else I think he won't come with us.

Levi:

As you wish, milady.

Jade, being annoyed by Levi's courtesy, punched him in the shoulder.

Jade:

Was that 'milady' really necessary? You know I don't like that posh language of yours. It is so annoying. And are you even sure you're not the lady here?

Levi:

I'm sure I'm not a lady. I'll quit the posh language. If you could hurry now because Charon is waiting for you. Don't sink the boat.

Jade:

Easy... I'll hurry if you shut up for a moment. Here, take Cerberus.

Jade gave Cerberus to Levi and got into Charon's boat. Levi looked at Charon in worry to which he reacted.

Charon:

Don't worry, Levi. She's safe here. Nothing can happen with the boat. You're souls, you haven't got a proper body anymore. Trust me, she's safe with me.

Levi gave them a push from the river bank. Charon started rowing and Jade was being taken to the border of 'The World Of The Living' and 'The World Of The Dead'.

Arriving at the border Charon pulled the boat closer to the river bank. Then Jade got out of the boat and thanked Charon for bringing her to the other side safely.

Jade (with a smile):

Thanks a lot for getting me here safe, Charon. I really appreciate it.

Charon (with a slight nod):

Don't worry about it. If you'd excuse me for a second. I'll get Cerberus now.

Jade:

Thanks. Watch out, okay?

As Jade spoke Charon pushed the boat off the river bank. Then he started to row his boat across 'The Acheron' again. This time he had to help Cerberus cross the river.

Levi (with an anxious look):

Hey Charon. Did Jade cross the river in one piece?

Charon (with an evil smirk):

Well... It's a shame really that such a beautiful girl has to spend the rest of her days here in Tartarus.

Levi (extremely worried):

You did what?! Don't you dare tell me there's something wrong because I swear you'll regret it.

Charon (slightly surprised):

Easy... It was just a joke, Levi. She's fine and waiting for you both at the other side of the river. I just wanted to see your reaction. Anyway... If you could give me Cerberus now. That'd be great.

Levi (with an angry voice):

Count yourself lucky for not being able to die. Here, take the bloody dog. And don't pull that trick on me again. I'll be waiting for you here and if you don't return to catch me I'll make sure Hades will hear about it.

Still angry, Levi handed Cerberus over to Charon who put him in his boat. Then Charon left to cross the river again. There Jade was already waiting for the two of them.

Charon:

Here you go, your dog. I must say your friend didn't seem very happy when I returned.

Jade (wonderingly):

Why? What happened? Doesn't he want to go or...

Charon:

Let's just say that friend of yours doesn't understand sarcasm that well.

Jade (with a puzzled look):

Never mind. Give Cerberus here and bring Levi as soon as possible. Be quick so he won't change his mind.

Jade took Cerberus from Charon, trying to calm him down. He was a bit... disoriented after coming off the wobbly boat.

Charon (taunting):

Don't worry, I'll get your boyfriend to come here.

Charon quickly left as Jade watched him with a surprised look on her face. Again he crossed the river towards Tartarus where Levi was still waiting.

Jade (shouting):

He is not my boyfriend, for Hades' sake. Jeez...

As Jade shouted Charon disappeared from the horizon.

Charon:

So... Are you ready to go on an adventure?

Levi (annoyed):

I'm only getting in because you're the only ferry who can take me across this river. So don't get too excited for being forgiven for that so called 'prank' you pulled there. Because guess what... You're not forgiven.

Charon:

You're being so kind. Like, really. I didn't think there were persons who are as nice as you.

Levi:

Quit the sarcasm, please. Just bring me to Jade so we can have this over with. Then when we have returned to Tartarus I will never bother you again.

Charon (smirking):

Well... I think I'll just have to agree with it. So get in and I'll bring you to your beloved girlfriend.

Levi (slightly confused):

She's not my girlfriend... Anyway... Just shut up and bring me across 'The Acheron', please. Thank you very much.

Charon (annoyed):

Alright... Jeez, you haven't got any patience, have you? No wonder that girl isn't your girlfriend yet. If I were you I would grow a bit more patient...

Levi, fed up with Charon's annoying talking, still got in the boat. He then pushed the boat away from the river bank. From there Charon took over and rowed to the other side of 'The Acheron'.

As they reached the river bank Jade got up. Then Levi stepped out of Charon's little boat after which Jade hugged him with excitement.

Jade (her voice high with excitement):

I'm so glad you made it. It took so long I almost thought you would back out. Thankfully you didn't. Or else I would be all on my own in the strange World of the Living. That would just be terrifying.

Meanwhile Charon, after noticing Jade wouldn't shut up soon, started to go away. Levi, however, noticed the departing of Charon.

Levi:

Shouldn't you stay here to, like, help souls get across 'The Acheron'? So why are you leaving?

Charon (angry):

Firstly, you shouldn't tell me what to do. Secondly, I can feel it when new souls are arriving. I don't need to be here to know souls are coming and want to cross 'The Acheron'.

Levi:

I'll keep that in mind... Anyway, thank you for helping us to cross 'The Acheron'. We'll see you in a week, I guess. So... Bye.

Jade:

Thanks for bringing us here, Charon. I truly appreciate it. I'll see you in a week, then.

Charon:

Bye, guys. It was a pleasure helping you. Look after yourselves because it can be very dangerous up there. I'll see you next time.

As Charon rowed away Levi and Jade waved at him while saying him goodbye. Cerberus barked two times and already started to walk toward the entrance of Tartarus where Jade and Levi spoke their possibly last words in Tartarus to each other.

Levi:

Are you ready to do this? To go to the World of the Living?

Jade (confidently):

I’m ready to leave Tartarus. But, Levi, are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you don’t want to.

Levi:

I’m sure. I’m not leaving you behind, you know that. Let’s do this. Let’s go to the surface.

Then Levi, Jade and Cerberus walked through the entrance of Tartarus. As they approached the World of the Living Levi and Jade started to get a more solid form. The long lost souls of Tartarus could walk on the Earth again...
