Thump thump. Tump thump

We walk at a steady pace.

We know we’re safe for now.

I wipe his blood from my face.

My friend, slaughtered like a cow.

Thump thump, thump thump.

We hear a muffled noise,

The sound of boots on sand.

I look towards my boys,

They have their guns at hand.

Thump thump thump thump.

We spin, guns held high.

Our pursuer shoots is gun,

“I’m hit!” I cry.

My final fight and the enemy won.

Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.

I’m beginning to feel the cold.

I don’t want to die.

Deaths taken hold,

Here’s my final goodbye.
