Tom looks to his twelve year old daughter Aaleigha as he drives her to the park to meet up with his wife Lezlee and friends for Aaleigha’s
twelfth birthday party. She smiles up at me. “When I was thirteen your uncles Bill, Andreas, Gustav and I were at this exact same park and it was so hot outside! I had a bottle of axe with me and
we sat it on that big hill over there and made it explode… Bill had came over just as soon as the police were coming so we all started running… And after that Bill was the one who got caught…”
Aaleigha looks to me with disbelieving eyes.
“Yeah right, daddy!”
“No! True story, baby doll! I swear!”
“Daddy you’re lying to me!”
“No, I’m not! Ask your mother!” She shakes her head. Slowly I pull over on the side of the road before we get to the park.
“Daddy? What are we doing?” Tom turns the radio down, finishes off his cigar, rolls up his window and turns to look at Aaleigha with a very serious facial expression.
“Look your mother and I have a very special present for you… It was not bought… It’s not something you can change and you can’t have it quite just yet… It was very unplanned
but we think you will be happy…”
“If I can’t have it now then it’s not much of a birthday present though…”
“You’ll understand once you find out what it is… I just wanted to go ahead and tell you about it so you wouldn’t be upset or anything. So please try to act surprised when we
“Okay…” Tom starts the car again and they make their way to the park.
Tom’s point of view
I make my way over to Lezlee and wrap my arms around her waist while Aaleigha is busy talking with her friends over some coke and food. Lezlee looks up to me and smiles. I plant a
kiss on her sweet, soft pink, plump lips. I can’t wait to tell Aaleigha what the surprise is! I hope she likes it! I pull away when I see a huge heard of teenagers coming at us. There’s
probably more guys then girls!
“Can we open presents now so we can eat cake and ice cream,” Aaleigha asks us eagerly. I laugh.
“Of course you can,” Lezlee answers.
“Yay!” Aaleigha skips over to the table covered in presents while clapping her hands. I watch extremely closely as a tall, buff, husky man with long brown hair,
pulls my daughter over in to his lap. I nudge Lezlee’s boob and right on cue she looks up at me.
“Who’s the guy?...” She shrugs her shoulders.
“All I know is that she likes him and he seems to like her.” The man balances his chin on her shoulder as she unwraps her presents and thanks whoever got her the present.
I feel like there’s something between Aaleigha and this man… And I don’t like that… Aaleigha throws her hands up in the air.
“Cake time,” She yells excitedly.
“Not just yet,” Lezlee tells her. I grab her hand with one hand and I let the other rest on her stomach.
“Hunny,” I begin. I decide it’s too hard for me to tell her so I look to Lezlee for help. She smiles excitedly and squeezes my hand.
“You’re going to be a big sister!”
