Lyrics

Shining city on the hill has gone away
Nowhere men with nothing and plenty to say
Election '16 was both beginning and the end
The body lives on in slight of hand pretend

No one home to hear the ringing phone
Each of us abandoned and on our own

Defensive knee jerks scream to be heard
In fury, they use warped and skewered words
Both to justify and as their weapon of choice
In destruction and doubt they dance and rejoice

No one home to hear the ringing phone
Each of us abandoned and on our own

Nothing left standing but American rust
Victims left with nothing but a handful of dust
They long for an America that never used to be
It's twilight zone in the land of the free

Countdown at light speed on the face of the clock
A second-rate con man as leader of his flock
Misguided fools look for a savior all wrong
The America that was is sadly long gone

No one home to hear the ringing phone
Each of us abandoned and on our own

Nothing left standing but American rust
Victims left with nothing but a handful of dust
They long for an America that never used to be
It's the twilight zone in the land of the free

END

Brilliant. Being apolitical I ignore the political statements and it’s still a brilliant poem. All the best
