Ho-Hum, Yet Another Poem
Here I sit at the keyboard again,
Trying to think of a good subject, but I just can't win
It's so hard when you’re not into it.
and my brain is fit-
to-be-tied with frustration,
at my pathetic situation
For I surely thought this would all be behind me
by now. When I look in the mirror, what do I see?
A man who’s stuck in the same old place,
wearing a frayed, shop-worn smile on my face
With nothing to do but think up funny crap all day,
with nothing of consequence whatever to say
Wake up in the morning, the day unwinds
With this repetition weighing on my mind
Comes the nighttime, awful in its sameness
Sometimes I can’t smile, I must confess
I’m expected to act like nothing is wrong
When everything I’m used to is so long gone
A laugh and a smile, that’s what I’ve become
I just keep going into the setting sun
Today, there’s nothing funny about my state of mind
Nothing light and happy that I can find
Sometimes it’s so hard to look around and smile,
so I guess I’ll be serious, at least for awhile
