A sign of the times, I guess

All these years, I thought I knew who you were.

Yes, we had our differences, to be sure,

but overall, I thought we got along okay.

But reading your comments, and the way

you defend the indefensible, makes me realize

whatever we had in common is long gone--you get a rise

out of me for the crazy things you now believe.

I don't understand what happened to you, cannot conceive

of your far right wing philosophy--I used to think somewhere

inside you, was compassion, I used to think you'd care

about the innocent victims of gun violence, for example, but I was wrong,

any sense of a compassionate, caring person is gone,

replaced by a hard-line, rigid ideology,

one whose logic, try as I might, I just can't see.

It's a sad fact of these polarizing times, but it's the new normal,

I guess, that we can't find common ground, and our friendship will fall.

In Canada, particularly in Québec, my right wing politic would make me a democrat in your country. I am all for capitalism, free enterprise and the less government, the better. Still I appreciate Medicare, I like OBAMA and I am against guns and capital punishment. And, well, I am against secession even if I am french educated and french speaking. Thankfully, there is enough of my sort who share that view on that sorry issue to make it a non issue. Yet, if the damn separatists were to do what I suggest in this little satire, they might win the pot in the end. So, I wrote the recipee in English and posted it where they won't find it. Just don't tell them. LOL

Thanks, Jean, I'm a liberal, so I think government should be used to help the less fortunate. Personally, I think the Republican political beliefs are self-centered greed, nothing less. If they were to admit global warming is a real thing, just for example, it would effect how much they make, so of course, they deny it.

I'm all for making lots of money, but come on, give a little bit back to help those less fortunate. To me, because they won't, that's where government has to step in. I hear you about wanting small government, but so many people need a little bit of help, that making government more efficient, as opposed to smaller, is the answer, but with the losers we have in there now, good luck!
