Another childhood memory!

Looking back on my childhood, it’s hard to believe we kids survived

Sometimes we weren't exactly smart.  First, we all apparently

Had ‘rope-swing fever’; how else would you describe

The insane desire to fling oneself from a tree, arcing

Above the rock (and I do mean rock!) hard ground,

Watching to scenery fly (and I do mean fly!) past?

That is, if you were lucky enough to pull yourself up high enough

To sit on the knot; if not, you became a human missile,

Launched in a direction you knew not, doing absolutely no

Damage to whatever you struck, but severe damage to yourself

Then, there was your uncanny impersonation of Evil Knievel;

Trying to set a land speed record before launching

Yourself high into the sky, in a desperate attempt

To stay in the air long enough to clear whatever

You had been foolish enough to attempt to jump

Soaring through the air, sometimes on purpose, sometimes not

No thought to a helmet, for helmets were for wimps,

Viewing the ground from a variety of angles

As you pin-wheeled through the air; I seem

To recall upside down was a favorite of mine

Anyway, like I said, we were lucky to survive our childhood disasters!
