Don’t Have a Clue

I sit here and write, but I don’t have a clue

about the rules of writing poetry; what I do

is write something that sounds right to me,

something that makes for interesting poetry

Didn’t go to school, don’t know the rules,

just hope I don’t write something that makes me look the fool

Maybe there are none, I don't really care

A warning to the reader though, "Beware!"

Just writing about a subject I want to understand,

Just trying to get in touch with what I’m about as a man

If others can relate, so much the better

Not trying to impress others, not trying to be a trend setter,

just trying to examine why I feel the way I feel,

trying to answer the question, “What’s the deal?”

I seldom find the answers, but I still feel it does me good,

a personal mystery a little more clearly understood

Like another piece of the puzzle just fell into place

Poems about trouble and personal disgrace,

poems about subjects I’ve so long locked away

Painful subjects that going back to revisit,

helps me to face them, and figure out what, “What is it

that makes me feel the way I do about moments from my past?”

And why does the guilt last and last?
