I remember how as a kid, I would have done anything

To be included in the pack, and not be a lone wolf

Nothing could have been worse than to do

Anything that was considered ‘out of the norm’

And so, I went along with things I knew to be wrong,

No matter how strongly my brain disagreed;

Things such as teasing someone, even though

I secretly understood their position, and

Doing stupid things, like not saying how

I really felt about something, because I

Was afraid no one would agree with me;

I had zero confidence in thinking for myself

It took me until just a few years ago

To get over that way of thinking

I was mortified to stand out, about anything!

Looking back now, I find it hard to believe the me of then,

I'm disappointed in myself, and my actions
