A Single Cupid

by Mikey CD

I walk down the streets

All the couples smile with glee

As do I, thanks to my deeds

As I try to keep them happy

An old couple passes my eye

I remember them crystal clear

A war vet and a nurse fell in love under the black sky

I united them years ago, and they are still here

Another couple, both teens, I united

They were so opposite, if you must know

Yet the love will never finish, only started

Their hate and love is strong and clear to show

And a married couple, with children, o joy!

They were fated together to be smiling

And thanks to my clever ploy

They will always have proof of their selfless loving

Ah, but 'tis a pity!

The matchmaker has not one lover

How can I enjoy with this pity

When will I find love, will it be never?

Damned is a man like me

Adores love yet never feels it

I may never be happy

I will never be gleeful, I know it

But the smiles of the lovers

It's a gift, no doubt

Seeing the faces of my sisters and brothers

And their love, going out and about

If I will never love, that I will take

For their smiles are enough for my eye

I live as a helper, doomed to break

But I will go on to satisfy
