"And I'm excited. I'm ready. I'm ready to fight for what I believe in and who I believe in. I'm ready to make a stand for myself. I'm ready and I'm pulsing with the energy to fight.
But I'm not ready for this.
My brother, my backbone, my best friend, is dying."

The war is coming. The war of the century they're calling it. The war that will reshaped and reform reality. The war of all wars. World War Three. The last war. The end of the world. The end of time.
And I'm excited. I'm ready. I'm ready to fight for what I believe in and who I believe in. I'm ready to make a stand for myself. I'm ready and I'm pulsing with the energy to fight.
But I'm not ready for this.
My brother, my backbone, my best friend, is dying.

"Come on, we're almost there." I hollered back.
"I swear, you're crazy for wanting to climb this deathly rock." He said through breaths.
"No, you're just crazy for coming with me."
"Well I can't let you die selfishly. You'd be leaving me with our insane aunt all by myself."
"Good point." I muttered through a grunt as I pushed myself over a rock. I turned around and let an arm down to hoist him up.
"Ok, one more bolder and we're there." I breathed.
"Yeah, just one more bolder." The sarcasim dripped in his words and I just laughed.
I eventually found my way around the obstacle and gained the upper ground on the rock. The shore crashed thousands of feet below me on the glassy rocks. The horizon held more ocean than ever before as the sun nearly blinded me from it's sinking location. The seaside wind whipped my braid behind me and swirled my bangs around my face.
"You've gotta see this Veil..." I breathed.
Silence.
"Veil?" I turned back.
"Veil, come on it's not that hard of a hike, I did it!"
Silent wind was my only responce.
"Do you want to see it or not, I mean we came up all this way and now you're backing out."
No comeback or insult.
"Veil!" I yelled in frustration as I climbed back down the bolder.
He was on the ground still as a cedar tree with nothing but a breath to cause movement. "Veil." I whispered before sprinting to his side.

"Dear Lord please bless this food and allow it to give us the nourishment to serve you in everything that we do. May our father be blessed with a taste of this delight. Amen."
"Amen." I echoed before reaching to grab a piece of chicken from the platter.
A suspected smack retreated my arms to my side along with a scowl.
"Ta'nire, where's your manners? You know better than that!" My aunt yelled.
"Come on, it's just you, me, Neria and Veil! It ain't like it's a formal state dinner. I'm hungry!"
"You're going to have to learn to grow up young lady, and quit using uneducated language, you know how much I detest that. This is your cousin's third birthday and we are going to have a decent, civilized, dinner together. If you cannot handle that, then please excuse yourself from the dinner table."
"Ta'nire..." A warning look from Veil gave me the motivation to act 'civilized.'
"For the dessert, I'll stay." I replied.
An eye roll from the woman was my only responce.
Suddenly a crash from across the table erupted as glasses shattered and a table dropped to the floor. The bad part about that was that my brother did as well.
"Veil!" My aunt shreiked as Neria screamed in unison.
I jumped from my seat and went to my brother convulsing side. Foam spurted from his lips as his eyes jumped around in a unknown void. I turned him on my side as I took off my hoodie and placed it under his uncontrollable head.
"Don't just stand there, call 911!" I shouted at my frozen aunt.
As she stumbled into the kitchen I looked back at my seizing brother.
Veil, what have you done to yourself?

"This has got to stop Veil! This is the 5th time that you've passed out in the middle of nowhere and this is the 3rd time you've collapsed into seizures! You have to get help. You need it."
"You know I can't. Doctor visits are too expensive and we're barely making it right now."
"I don't freakin care Veil. There is something wrong with you and you have to go get help before it's too late."
"I'm fine, it's nothing big, just stress or maybe it's a virus."
"You're not fine Veil. When you've been to the ER four times in five months, I'd say there's a problem."
"Ta'nire..."
"Just go Veil. Go if not for yourself, go for me. Alright? Or go to piss Aunt Jules off. That's always fun."
"Yeah for you maybe."
"You know it's funny when she gets mad. Don't even try to deny it."
"Okay, I'll go next week."
"Thank you."

It was that appointment that the doctors suspected that cystic cerebral deminia was the factor is Veil's episodes. The results came back one week later.
That was the week everything stopped. The world halted abruptly on it's axis. I was the first to see the results, even before Veil. I was the one with the mail that day. I opened that letter. I ripped open that seal. I saw the results.
I shredded that paper with my hands and took them to my face.
I told Veil three days later. He didn't cry, he didn't collapse, he didn't run, he didn't yell, he didn't crumble.
He smiled.
I didn't. All I know is that Veilanr Wiel Xiretam has 8 months to live.
And so do I.
