This is the first part of a short story inspired by Mayday Parade's "Kids In Love", as well as my personal experience, and a dream i had.

A young friendship turns into something more but as the two teenagers grow up it gets harder for them to keep saying "maybe someday". One night it becomes too much for mother to be Alycia, to handle and she runs off to California to raise her Daughter, Jaesy, alone. But young love never dies, and Alycia finds it hard to forget the boy she once loved.

Her hands were shaking uncontrollably. Her mind going a mile a minute trying to figure out just how this fight had began. This fight between her and the man she had always loved since the day they met at the homecoming game, of what should have been her sophomore year of high school, his junior. She was young and taken, he was taken by her. She was 15. The buzzing from her phone broke her trance, and without hesitation, but with great fear she read the message marked unread from Brandon.

“You picked him. As dumb as it sounds that meant everything to me. I’m not over it. It still hurts when I think about it. I think about it when your around. If you’re not around I won’t hurt. I guess that sounds selfish, but I can’t handle it. None of it was about having sex or anything. It’s still that. It will always be that. You crushed me. I didn’t mean to do the same to you.”

Her head swarmed with emotion, her face burned hott, and her tears formed rivers down her face. She remembered back to the day she had made her one and only mistake. January of 2009. Brandon and Alycia had been seeing a lot of each other since the day they met. It wasn’t long before they admitted to falling in love with each other. There love was kept a secret for many months. Brandon was with another girl, Amanda, and Alycia had been with Patrick nearly a year and a half now. Soon the love between Brandon and Alycia had grown too strong and Brandon and left Amanda and left Alycia with a choice. Alycia was fifteen, in love and confused. She had been with Patrick for so long, he was all she ever knew. They had been living together due to her rough home-life and she couldn’t go back to that, but Brandon was different. When she was with him she felt things she had never felt before, something she was sure would never go away. He meant the world to her, and she didn’t want to lose him. Finally it came time to choose. Brandon had promised that no matter the choice he would remain in her life, so to avoid having to move back into an abusive household she choose Patrick. After the choice was made, Alycia wasn’t the same. She knew deep down she had made a mistake. She felt it whenever her and Patrick were together, and she felt the longing to be near Brandon the way she was before. The way she knew it was supposed to be. After almost a year she knew she couldn’t stay with Patrick, though she loved him she knew what true love felt like and anything in comparison just wouldn’t feel the same. She left him. 3 Years had gone by and Brandon and Alycia though great friends never found themselves together again. He found another girl he claimed to love. Alycia, just waiting for the day she could be with her true love again, numbed the loneliness with Leif, a young guy who was good company but someone she knew she wouldn’t get attached to. He was good company, a good friend, but everything between them changed when two tiny pink lines appeared on a white stick. Alycia was six weeks pregnant and Leif was gone. Brandon and Skyler were having a few relationship problems themselves and slit for a while. Alycia went to see Brandon for comfort and the natural spark between the two took over. Neither of them knew how it happened, but there they were. Together. I love you’s escape their lips again, and butterflies return. They’re breath grew slower as they drifted off to sleep in each others arms thinking about how they are together, in a way they had never been before. As Alycia thought of this she couldn’t help but feel like this is more right then her lifes ever been. “But you did.” She texts back, too over whelmed to really know what to say. “You know how much I regret picking him, you said you Forgave me!” She presses send, and attempts to wipe her wet face with her already damp sleeve. Buzz Buzz “I don’t” Her stomach turned, and the now 6 month old fetus inside of her kicked.

“I didn’t think I had a choice. It was pick him or move home and get beat. I’ve always regretted it. My reasons were somewhat understandable, your hurting me now out of pure revenge for a mistake I made when I was 15.” buzz buzz “I’m just done.”

She knew then there was nothing left to say. For the first time in her life her heart was broken. She leaned up against the wall and sank and as she slowly reached the floor her heart closed. No sleep came to her that night, just thoughts and tears. He didn’t want to see her again, she never wanted to love again. She lifted her head to look around her dark room, and she thought about how easy it would be for her to just leave it all behind. Her mind was made up. By the time the sun had risen, Alycia was gone. All her roommate would find was a note saying goodbye, with an envelope with her half of the months rent in it. The adrenalin of running away had gone down after about two hours on the train headed south to California. She barley remembered getting on the train at all. It was like her mind had gone to sleep leaving her body to work on pure instinct. But there she was on a train and 15 hours from her new life. Just her and her baby girl Jaesy.
