"Great, another boring day at school.", This was one of the only days I hadn't gotten in trouble for daydreaming and doodling in my notebook. By the way, my name is Conner, Tilly Conner. I am a 15 year-old girl with strawberry blond hair and gray-gold eyes who lives in Storybrooke, Maine. The people living in my house are my parents, my eight year-old brother, and my adorable schnauzer named Oscar. I am a straight B-student. It's not the best, but it's still not failing! I want what pretty much a seven year-old wants. To find and ride a unicorn. I mainly want to do this to impress everyone, because around here, I'm not the most popular person. The other reason is because I really like this guy and I think that if I have a unicorn, he will finally like me. I know it sounds really sappy and like a fantasy, but don't worry, the storyarrow-10x10.png\" will get much more interesting past this point. His name is Felix and he has brown hair with small streaks of blond. He has light brown eyes with some green, and braces on his crooked smile. "Tilly! What are you doing?", yelled my teacherarrow-10x10.png\", turning my face bright red from embarrassment. "Um, I'm just thinking very deeply about algebra.", I could feel my face burning like the warm surface of the blacktop concrete. "Fair enough." Mr. Stern slowly turned back to the white board, explaining a confusing math problem. I was doodling a picture of a unicorn that I hope I will find some day. I look up and see the girl that hates me. Alyssa Arnott. She has hated me ever since 2nd grade because I accidentally spilled some juice on her and she was humiliated in front of the class. She really holds a grudge over really small things. Little did I know I would soon hate her just as much. "Okay class, homework is.......", Mr. Stern said as I zoned him out. "See you tomorrow everyone." Finally, lunch. At lunch, I always sit alone, at the far end of the cafeteria. As I scan the room, I see all of the separated groups. I see the people who are shy in class but loud at lunch, the loud in class but quiet at lunch, jocks, bookworms, and the popular people. Of course, the person in the center of attention at the popular table is Alyssa. Alyssa gets up from her table and walks over to me. "So, I saw you drawing that picture today in class." She points at the sketched drawing of a unicorn next to me. "I just wanted you to know that you are not the only person trying to impress other people." She glances over at Felix and I already knew that she liked him too. "I will also be looking for a unicorn." Great. Now I've got some major competition. I hear the loud sound of the bell to dismiss the students, so I ran to the bus and waited on the long ride home. When I got off the bus, I grabbed a snack, got some horse supplies if I found it that day, and I head out. I come back about six hours later with no luck. I'm not going to go into detail on that day because it was a very, very, very boring day. Imagine walking through a forest with a donut on a stick yelling for a horse with a stick coming out of its head. The same happens with the next day, with no luck again. I trudge back to another day of school, my spirits down because I had no luck. Just like the past few days, I sat down by myself and look over at Felix with his arm around Alyssa. He doesn't look happy. He glanced up at me and he smiles. Maybe he likes me! This small gesture turned my spirit upside down and encouraged me to go out again to try to find a unicorn. Alyssa walks over once again, sitting down next to me. "I saw you looking in the woods yesterday.", she said with her hands on her hips. I just continued eating my lunch pretending like I didn't hear her. "Excuse me?" She was getting more angry as I ignored her. "If you are just going to sit there, at least look at me." I finally cranked my neck just barely so I could see her brown curls. "I just want to be alone." I said in a gloomy way. "Fine, but I want you to know that I found out that they really do exist!" Alyssa stands up and starts walking away. I jump up out of my seat and run after her. "What are you talking about?" I say when I have a confused look on my face. What did she find? Did she find where one might be? Maybe someone told her how to attract one. What could it be? "Do you really think I would be willing to tell you?" I could start to see heads turning out of curiosity at our direction. I knew that Alyssa did this on purpose because she loves to be the center of attention and she knows I hate it. "You're drawing attention to us." I lean over and whisper quietly into her ear. I could tell that she was secretly smirking to herself at me. To stop this, I ran back to my seat, still considering different things it could have been that she found. This part is where you see the nosy side of me. Creeping over to the smelly grey trash can next to the table where Alyssa was sitting, I acted like I was having trouble cleaning the peanut butter out of my container. I silently shuffled closer to Alyssa's table to hear her. "Guess what!" she was talking to her friends, "When I was figuring out my plans to find a unicorn in the forest, this guy came up to me and told me that his cousin saw a unicorn one time!" I could tell that her friends did not believe her. "He could have just easily told you that without proof." Summer said this. She has been one of Alyssa's friends ever since first grade. You can tell all she wants to do is impress Alyssa. If you were to find the person who kisses-up the most, it would probably be Summer. Alyssa spoke next. "Is this proof enough?" She handed Summer a picture of a middle-aged man with black stubble under his chin. In the background of the picture, there was a crimson colored rock mountain with a creme colored unicorn standing in front of it. When I see this I think to myself, "Where is that place?" It doesn't look like any place you would find around here. Alyssa and her friends continue to talk about the picture. "Wow," Alyssa's other friend Madi said with wide eyes, "this is definitely good proof." I was still looking over their shoulders at the picture. They didn't notice me and I was still at the trash can. "Where was this picture taken at?" Summer asked in a way that made her seem interested. When I heard the next words that came out of her mouth, my jaw dropped all the way to the floor. Alyssa opened her mouth and said, "A huge rocky, dangerous, and active volcano in Hawaii." All of her friends gasped, and I did too. They all turned their heads to look at me, but I had turned my head just in time so they wouldn't catch me. "What are you going to do now?" spelling.gif\"Madi looked really frantic at this point, as well as Summer. Alyssa replied with a smile on her face by saying, "I'm going there." When she said this, I imagined what would happen. One day she would ride up on a unicorn to the school, and bring it in the classroom. Then, she would walk up to Felix saying, "I got this for you, I hope you like it." After that, Felix would say, "Alyssa, I can't believe you got this just for me. Will you be my girlfriend?" Finally, I would be sitting in the corner, alone. Like I said, I know it seems like a romance, but wait for the end. I realize that she now knows where to find a unicorn, meaning she will win this 'battle' because my parents would never let me go there. This was the part where I went back to my seat, slumped down, and continued eating my lunch. Just like the past days, I go on the long bus ride home. I come inside, and my mom comes running down the stairs, yelling, "I have a surprise!" At this point, I am sitting up and I see two tickets in her hand. Squinting as hard as I can, I see that they are two tickets to Hawaii! I jump up with my arms flailing, and say, "I might have a chance!" My mom looks at me with a confused face. "Don't worry about it." I said to her. The tickets she got were for tomorrow! I'm going to skip the next day because it was just a long plane ride and getting to our hotel. When I woke up the next day in our hotel, I bounced out of bed, got my gear, and headed out the door. I managed to find the location of the volcano and headed that direction. Arriving at the site of the volcano, I look up to observe the huge crimson-colored, rocky, and steep edges. I look to the side and see a somewhat flat path leading to the top of the volcano. This journey might not seem that bad, but you have no idea how long that path was. It took me a total of three hours to get there and reach the top. I look down at the bubbly, popping lava. Around the edges, there are small paths to walk on. Below, I see a faint silhouette. Alyssa. I quietly use a rope tied to a rock to lower myself to the paths. She still did not see me. "Thud!" I dropped to the ground. In front of me, I saw Alyssa. I quickly searched the area, seeing no unicorns. I was right next to the edge of the lava. One step made the ground crack. I took one more step and the ground fell out from under me. Thanks to reflexes I grabbed a near area of land. Alyssa finally turned around, saying, "Well, well, well. What do we have here?" She had a smirk on her face. "It looks like little Tilly wanted to impress her little crush." Now she was walking around, talking to me. "Oh look!" Alyssa pointed over to a unicorn! Alyssa walked over, sat on top of it, and said, "Good luck getting out of this situation." She then flew up and out of the volcano until out of sight. I struggled and struggled, trying to get on the cliff. Using all of my upper body strength to lift myself up. One more push projected me a couple feet onto the cliff. Sitting there for a second, I realized how much trouble I went through to get it, and I failed. I walked over to the rope to get me up. By the time I got back to the hotel, it was past dinner time. My mom was furious with me. The next few days were not as fun as I though they'd be. In three days, we took a plane home and I had to go to school that day. Of course, everyone was crowding around Alyssa and listening to her brag. What happened next I felt had changed my life. Felix walked over and asked me what was wrong. I told him the whole story. "That is terrible Tilly, are you alright?" he asked me. "Yeah, but I'm sad." I replied. "Don't worry Tilly, it will be okay." He put his arm around me and whispered, "I've always liked you." This story seems like it ended at a bad spot, but I got what I was trying to accomplish the whole time. I wanted Felix to like me. It might have been sort of a romance, but that was just how the story ended.
