The Last in a series of poems For Her

For Her

If I were to choose an animal to represent you,

It would be an Eagle.

And if I were to choose a flower to describe you,

It would be a Lilac.

But if I were to choose someone to love you-

It would be me.

I’m not as majestic

Or delightful

As the things said above,

But how could I choose someone else

Without knowing if they would hold you at night

And marvel in how lucky they are to do so?

How would I know that they would

Wipe away every single tear

And break their own heart just to cheer you up?

How could I be sure that they gave you

Space when you need it,

But hold you tight when you’re lying

Through your teeth?

I cannot be sure that they would

Love you right

Unless

That person

Was Me.
