One Snowy Night

Morgan sat at her kitchen table. The coffee in her cup, she new had to be cold by now. She stared out the window of her large Victorian home. She could see cars driving by as she stood to warm her coffee up. If she could have one wish, she would take back what she had said to him. But it was over now. She couldn't. She got so angry that she said things she didn't mean. She always did that.

Gerard had always been there. So he made a stupid mistake. Everyone does. It was only one.

She and Gerard had been together for at least three years. As long as his band had been together. He was always off touring. She never had time to be with him. She just wanted to be with him. It didn't seem like they were even together, anymore. But when he told her. When those words came out of his mouth, she lost it. Even if she didn't say the things she said, would she even be able to trust him anymore. She breathed in slow as she smelled the coffee. There was no turning back it was over and she had lost him.

Gerard held the small ring in his hand. He looked at the ruby stone. He could remember the day he gave it to her.

They were out on one of their many dates that they went on when he was home. They were eating at their favorite restaurant, it was a small locally owned Chinese place. They sat at the same table they always did, he had ordered champagne. Morgan was late, but he new she would be. As long as he had known her she had never been on time. He looked at his watch. Five minutes late.

“She should be coming through the door any minute now.” He reassured himself.

Before he could even think about worrying she came through the door and saw him. It was snowing out and she was covered with small white snow flakes. As she came towards him she pulled off her scarf and jacket. She sat down across from him.

“Did you order?” She had asked him.

To her this was just another date. But to him, to him, this was the biggest decision he ever had to make, and he knew he was making the right one. He nodded.

“Mushu Pork, just for you babe.” He smiled as he pulled the champagne out of the small bucket of ice and poured a glass for her.

She smirked. “champagne, whats the occasion, hon?”

He took her hand in his and looked her straight in the eyes.

“Morgan, I know that I have been gone a lot touring and everything. I haven't really been able to spend a lot of time with you, lately.”

She scuffed. “you got that right, bud.” She smiled to show him that she was kidding.

That was one of the reasons he fell for Morgan. She was so understanding. She never complained and she always supported him. He smiled and pulled her hand up to kiss it. She blushed a little.

“Why do you do that in public, it makes you look so different.” She looked around to see if anyone was watching.

He could understand why she would think that. He was in a black t-shirt and a pair of jeans that had rips in the knees. He did suppose it looked a little strange when he tried to be prince charming. Trying not to loose the moment, he pulled the small black velvet box out of his pocket. He looked her straight in the eyes, as he opened it.

“Morgan Athena DeLacour, will you marry me?” He just let it out. There was no need in putting around. He wanted her to know exactly how he felt.

Morgan was stunned. She wasn't expecting it at all, he could tell. She nodded her yes as he slid the ruby on her finger. She got up from the table and pounced him. It was totally out of character for her but he laughed in between kisses from her.

Now he stood on the steps of the small hotel that he and his band members we staying at for the holiday's. He held the ring and all he could do was stare at it. He had really messed things up. He felt a hand on his shoulder.

“Hey man, you okay?” his brother Mikey's familiar voice came from behind him.

“No, no I'm not okay. I'm not okay at all.” He put the ring in his pocket as he sat down on the steps and put his head in his hands.

Mikey sat down next to him.

“It's gonna be alright. You can get through this. I have seen you go through tougher times than this. You held strong when Grams died.”

Gerard lifted his head and sniffed. He rubbed his eyes and took a deep breath.

“You're right, I don't need her...I mean...” He broke off as he thought about her smile. He did need her. He couldn't live without her. “No, Mike...I do need her. I love her. She is the one thing in this world that keeps me sane. The one thing that I can see myself with for the rest of my life. Do you understand?”

Mikey smiled. “I knew you had it in you. Go find her dammit before I have to find her myself and drag her here.”

Gerard stood up and straighted his shirt. He wasn't going to go down without a fight.

Morgan looked around her house. Everything was reminding herself of him. Everything. She saw the picture frames filled with their pictures. The Christmas tree that sat in the corner of her apartment was filled with presents for her and him. They had gone shopping for each other a while ago. Before all of this happened.

She walked passed the old photo's of them. There was a picture of then in bathing suits on a white sandy beach. It was their trip to Mexico. She remembered it like it was yesterday.

She sat on the beach chair watching the ocean as he came up behind her and covered her eyes.

“Guess who?” he said

“Oh Gee, I don't know could it be that really hot lifeguard that was down the beach, yeah I think he was checking out my ass when I walked by.” He smiled

“What! Where is he...staring at my girl like that, I'll knock him out!” He started to walk towards the lifeguard.

Morgan laughed. “Gerard, get your ass back you dummy.”

Gerard turned around and ran back to her. He picked her up and spun her around in the air. When he set her down she stumbled and leaned against him. He lost his balance and they both fell to the sand, Morgan on top. She began to laugh as he leaned up and kissed her passionately. The laughter stopped when he pulled away. He pushed her long brown hair behind her right ear, how she always wore it.

“Morgan I love you.” He said to her in a very serious tone.

She kissed him again. “I love you more.” She said as she stood up and grabbed his hand. She pulled him toward their beach side hotel, and shut the blinds. They spent damn near the whole trip in their hotel room.

Morgan huffed a small giggle out as she set the picture back down on the table. She looked at other pictures as she made her way to the Christmas tree. She leaned down and looked at the presents.

“well it is Christmas.” She pulled the first one to her out and began to unwrap it. It was a new scarf. Black with red tips exactly like her old one. He new her all to well. He new that she would never use another scarf accept hers and it was getting old. She remembered when he bought that scarf for her. It was their first Christmas together.

“Oh my god, I love it Gee. I will never use another scarf again.” She jumped and kissed him.

“I figured you would like it. It's your favorite colors.”

She had been amazed that he had remembered her favorite colors. Most men don't really pay attention to that.

She stared out the window as the snow fell down. It just started to snow. She got up and looked out the window.

Gerard drove down the road in the snow storm. The big flakes were landing on the windshield making it hard to see. He leaned forward as he tried to watch out the window on the road. But it was useless, the road was just as white as everything else. He swore this had to be the biggest storm ever to hit this part of New Jersey. He wasn't sure if he was even on the right side of the road anymore. But still he drove on. He had to get to her. He had to beg her to forgive him. Do whatever it took. While he drove he struggled to remember the night that it happened.

“Gerard!” A familiar voice came from behind him as he stood trying to tell the new staff member where everything goes. He had been on tour for almost eight months now he hadn't seen Morgan or home in so long. He just wanted this tour to be over. Even though he loved his fans he was just getting so tired.

He turned to see Jessica Winters. Jessica was Morgan's best friend. He was extremely surprised to see her in Florida. She came up to him and wrapped her arms around him. Stunned he hugged back.

“Jessica, What are you doing in Florida?” He asked her still taken aback by her presence.

She smiled big and pulled away. “Oh I have family here. I'm just visiting for Christmas, you know. So how have you been?”

Gerard turned to scold the kid who was trying to set Bob's drum set too close to the door. He turned his attention back to Jessica. “Oh, well it's okay. I haven't been home in quite a while. I'm hoping to make it home by Christmas.”

Jessica nodded. “So, um, you wanna go get a drink or something? Catch up a little?” Her smile was a little to inviting. Gerard hesitated.

“You know I have a lot of work around here to get done before tonight. Besides I don't drink anymore remember.”

She lowered her head, upset. She looked at him and puffed her lower lip out in a pout. “Please, one drink. I swear I will return you after that.”

Gerard looked around. Trying to find an excuse. It's not that he didn't like Jessica, he just didn't trust her. In high school, he had turned her down and she seemed very upset about it. And when he met Morgan he didn't realize that Jessica and her were good friends. Finding no way out of this, and not wanting to hear it from Morgan when he got home he regretfully agreed to her proposal.

They entered the bar and he had one drink. He sipped it very slowly and soon he needed to use the rest room. On his way back he saw a couple people he knew from the concert crew and began a conversation.

After he said goodbye to them he came back to the table where Jessica sat. She didn't look very amused. “So where did ya go?” She put on an obvious fake smile.

“I saw some people from the crew had to chat a bit, sorry.” They became silent. He took a sip of his drink. It tasted funny, but he figured it was just the fact that he hadn't had a captain and coke in quite some time. He took another sip and hoped that Jessica would start talking. Faithfully she did.

“So Gerard, how are you and Morgan doing? I mean with the separation. It can't be good on her. Well if it were me, it wouldn't matter of course but Morgan, she can be a little freaky sometimes...”

Jessica rolled on and Gerard tried to keep up but he began to feel dizzy. The next this he knew he had woken up to Jessica and he naked in his hotel bedroom, twenty minutes before his bands performance. He had a massive headache and couldn't remember anything. He panicked and ran from the room, dressing on his way there.

Gerard slowed even more as he watched the road. He thought of Morgans face when he told her. She cried for at least an hour before, she began throwing things and telling him to get this “Man whore Ass” out of her house. He did choose a very inappropriate time to tell her. He should have waited until after Christmas, but he couldn't the longer he waited the worse it felt. But now, now he was determined to get to her, in this horrible weather.

Jessica stood in her apartment twenty minutes from Gerard and Morgan's home. She stared at herself in the mirror. She had gotten him back. She did feel sorry that her poor friend had to be caught in the crossfire. She had known Morgan for a very long time and she did feel a little sad. But oh well alls fair in love and war. She giggled as she read the back of the small brown bottle. Rohypnol, the date-rape drug. Gerard would never remember what happened and he will be so upset. She was just glowing in her victory. She dumped the drug down the drain and threw the bottle in the small garbage next to the toilet. Then her phone rang.

Morgan didn't want to feel this way. There was one thing she hadn't done yet. She hadn't confronted Jessica yet. She left the window and went to pick up her phone. She dialed her number growing angrier with every number. Her friend wasn't innocent in this either. It rang three times and Jessica answered.

“Morgan, let me come over and explain before you freak out okay.” She sounded very sincere so she agreed. Without saying anything she might regret she hung the phone up. She went into the kitchen and pour another cup of coffee. Adding some cream she sat down and watched as the white circled around the black making a hypnotizing vision. She didn't even know what she was going to say to Jessica. What if the story comes out different and then she would have to decide which story to believe. Maybe if it's not even true then she can forgive Gerard. Then maybe he would forgive her of the awful things she had said to him. She did over react a bit. She recalled another fight they had had a few months back about a girl he use to date.

“I don't care, the way she looked at you was just...uh...Gerard you will never understand!” She stormed off leaving a confused Gerard standing next to the tour bus. She would never get use to the way women looked at him. He was an idol to some and a sex god to others. This day would be the last time she went to a few shows with him. It just bothered her so much. The girl practically threw herself on him and all he did was laugh. He didn't push her away he didn't do anything. Just let it happen.

“Morg, please, babe. Will you wait up?” Gerard pleaded behind her. She heard him running towards her. She just ignored him and continued to walk to her car. When she got to the door she went to unlock it and Gerard's hand lightly touched hers.

She pulled away and turned around. “Just stop, I'm going home. You are obviously preoccupied.” Granted she did come unannounced but she was pretty sure she earned the right.

Gerard grabbed her face in his hands. He forced her to look at him. She crossed her arms as tears ran down her cheeks. She couldn't help it. She was so frustrated. Without saying a word he pulled her face into his and kissed her with a violent need. She hesitated. She dropped her arms and balled her hands into fists. She pulled away and started to punch him in the chest while crying fiercely. After a moment she wrapped her arms around him in a gentle embrace. He held her close and whispered in her ear.

“Morgan, There is no one else in this horrible world that I love more than you.” He pulled away and cupped one side of her face in his palm. She leaned into it. He held the back of her head with his fingered entangled in her silky smooth brown hair. Then he continued to make her heart beat faster with the words that he always know how to say. “I go to sleep thinking about your perfect face, I thinking about you when I'm on that stage. I don't ever see anyone else. Everyday I wait for the next time I can see you. The next time I can hold you in my arms again. That is precious to me. Every moment I spend with you is time not waisted. So please...please never think that I would ever touch another living soul. Because you are my salvation. You are what keeps me alive. No one else. Just you. Do you understand me?” He asked her and she quietly nodded.

He leaned in and gently kissed her lips. His lips were soft, and velvety, while she knew her lips were now salty and moist from the tears. He pulled away and kissed her cheeks and then her forehead.

Morgan felt tears boil up in her eyes. She took a shaky sip of her coffee. Could she really just let him go after he had said that. Could she really forgive him. He had told her that he would never touch another woman. He betrayed her trust. Or did he? She didn't know until she talked to Jessica. Gerard never actually said that he did anything with her. He just told her what he remembered. He said he only had one drink but maybe he had many more. She knew how he could get uncontrollably drunk. But until she talked to Jessica she didn't know what to believe.

Gerard pulled to the side of the road. Was there a building some where. He got out and the cold wind hit him like a thousand knives. It was freezing and he couldn't see anyone or anything. He was only across town. How did he end up this far off course. He was in a country side. He looked around and thankfully about a mile up the road he saw lights, noticing that they weren't moving he knew it couldn't be headlights. He got back in his car and began to drive. He reached maybe twenty miles an hour when he lost tracking and the car skidded. He tried to right the car but it was useless, he skidding on his side into a small ditch hitting a huge wooden power line pole. Then all he remembered was seeing the house's lights disappear and

Jessica pulled into a short driveway and looked up at the house she so wished she could own. It was a four bedroom old Victorian. It was set farther back then the rest of the houses, just on the edge of the small patch of woods that looked like it didn't belong. She was so jealous of her friend it sent a violent shock wave through her. Just once couldn't she get the boyfriend the house the good grades the popularity. Yes! She said to herself. For once she had one. For once she had beaten Morgan. She felt bad it had to be this way. But can't a girl have a victory once and a while. She would explain to Morgan that she thinks he drugged her and all this stuff. Morgan would forgive her, with Gerard out of the way. They could be friends again. In her mind it was perfect logic. She parked the car and quickly jumped out of the car and ran through the heavy snow to the lit porch and knocked softly. Morgan opened the door and she saw her tear stained cheeks. Enter best friend. She stepped over the threshold.

Morgan pulled Jessica in. “Hurry up, we don't have much time. Gerard was in an accident. I just got a call from Mikey. I have to go.”

“What!” Jessica exclaimed. Well this is not exactly what she had planned. But if he died in the hospital that would definitely be a plus. She ran to her friends side.

“Morgan, Why do you even care? What he did to you?” She quickly jumped out of her way as Morgan grabbed her heavy coat and the red and black scarf. She wrapped the scar around her neck and headed towards the door.

She paused at the door and turned around. “Are you gonna drive or do you want me to get into an accident too.”

Without a sound Jessica ran passed her out the door and to the car with Morgan following.

Gerard dreamt of Morgan's face. Her big blue eyes, her perfectly round face. Her brown hair dropping around his face as she smiled in bliss. He was quickly thrown back into the past...

“Wake up sleepy head. You are home for two weeks and it's your birthday.” Morgan was straddling him and leaning over his face. She had on one of his pull over black shirts, that he took off rather quickly, last night before the wonderful love that they made.

He rubbed his eyes and quickly rolled Morgan over catching her off guard. She let out a squeaky yelp. He was now lightly straddling her. He pushed her hair out of her face and leaned in to kiss her. “Well you can't top that. Waking up to my beautiful wife to be is the best present a guy could as for.” He told her as he kissed her lips gently.

Morgan kissed back but quickly pushed at his bare chest. “That's lovely, but I have bacon burning and pancakes to flip.” She said as she squirmed out from underneath him. He lightly smacked her butt as she left the room. She got to the door way and she turned around. “And oh, don't bother getting dressed, because after you eat I plan on bringing you right back in here for a birthday you will never forget.” She winked and ran off down the hallway...

“Gerard, Gerard?” He heard a voice that for a second he thought was Morgans. But as he became clearer he realized it was his brothers. He slowly opened his eyes to Mikey leaning over him. He jumped and looked around. He saw the rest of the band, Bob, Ray and his good friend Frank all standing around with hope in their eyes. He tried to get up but he ached all over. His head ached especially. He put his hand on his head only to feel a bandaged wrapped around his forehead. Mikey sat down and motioned for the guys to leave. They all left one by one.

“Gerard, you had a bad accident. You totaled your car. You are so lucky that the electricity was out because the people in the farmhouse would never have noticed your car in the ditch. You are one lucky SOB.” he smiled.

Gerard faintly remembered the road the house. He never made it to Morgans. “Damnit” he said aloud.

Mikey leaned in. “Hey man, whats wrong.”

Gerard slowly shook his head. “I never made it to Morgans. And now I'll never remember if I did it or not. I hit my head hard. I am sure the memory is entirely gone. I was hoping...”

Mikey stopped him. “Listen, you didn't do anything. You couldn't have. The doctor did a toxic screen on you, to see if you were drinking or on anything, it was before I showed up. He said they found traces of Rohypnol in your blood stream.”

Gerard was in shock. Rohypnol. Where had he heard that before. Then it dawned on him. In high school one of his not so close buddies had brought it to a party and was going to give it to a girl. Then take advantage of her.

“Isn't that called the Date-rape drug?” Mikey nodded.

“And, while on it you would have been completely out. You wouldn't have even been able to keep it up long enough to do anything. So...nothing happened. You can guarantee it. Don't worry I already called Morgan she should be on her way.”

Gerard panicked for a second. “Wait Mikey the storm...”

“Has cleared up. She will be okay. Just lay down until she gets here.”

Gerard relaxed for a second. Well until a distraught Morgan rushed into the room. She flew to his bedside and took his hand. Mikey quietly left. His features softened while he looked at her. He placed his other hand on top of hers.

“Gerard! Don't you ever do this to me. I was worried sick. No one said if you were alive or in bad shape. My god! I was picturing your funeral. What I would do without you.” She wiped tears from her cheeks. God he hated to see her cry. His gut clenched. He was going to say something when he spotted Jessica behind her at the door.

“YOU!” he screamed at her. “You drugged me? Why?” He was staring at her with accusation.

Morgan stood up quickly and shook her head. “No you drugged her. She told me everything.” She came back to reality. She wasn't suppose to care that he was in the hospital. He took advantage of her best friend and pretended like he “couldn't remember”.

“Actually, He is right.” Mikey peeked his head behind Jessica.

Morgan looked at the door at both of them. Jessica began to look very uncomfortable, which immediately gave her away. Morgan backed up into the chair. She put her hand over her mouth. She was going to be sick. She ran to the small hospital room bathroom and slammed the door. She threw up all the coffee she had drank that day and it didn't taste very good coming back up. She rose from the toilet and rinsed her mouth out with water and wiped her face with a brown paper towel. There was a tap at the door.

“Morgan. Open the door please, love.” It was Gerard. She quickly opened the door and he was standing there with Mikey holding him up. She quickly went under his other arm and helped him back to the bed. He sat down. He didn't lay down however. He just stayed there. He looked up at Jessica who was now all the way in the room while the others stayed in the doorway, to block her exit. “Tell her, what you did.”

Jessica wrung her hands nervously. Then she took a big gulp. “Well, the truth is...I'm...the truth.” She swallowed and continued. “The truth is I'm jealous of you Morgan. You have always had everything. I just...I...I'm so sorry. It was stupid. And then when I remembered that Gerard turned me down when I asked him out. Then you got him...I couldn't take it anymore. I snapped.”

Morgan paused for a second. She sat next to Gerard on the bed and took his hand in hers. She looked between him and Jessica. “So nothing happened between you two?”

Jessica shook her head. “No...I drugged him and stripped him naked so when he woke up he would make his own assumptions. I never planned on really sleeping with him. I despise him in reality.”

Morgan was silent for a while. After about five minutes of quietness Morgan raised her head and looked him Gerard. “I'm sorry I doubted you. I'm so sorry.” Then she turned her attention to the nervous Jessica looking around trying to avoid eye contact with anyone in the room. “As for you, just go. Loose my number, don't ever talk to me or anyone I know again. Thats all that I ask.” Jessica nodded. And Bob and Ray moved from the doorway. Frank who was standing right outside the door spit on the floor as she passed. She ran down the hallway and Morgan could hear he crying. She wanted to feel bad but she just couldn't. Good Riddance. She thought. She looked at Mikey and the others and they all left the room again.

“Gerard.” Morgan stood from the bed. “I feel awful. I should have never believed that you would do that. I can't believe I fell for it.” She crossed her arms and paced back and forth.

It pained him to see her so upset. “Morgan come back her and sit with me.” She hesitated. “Please.” She gave up and walked over to him. He pulled her down and sat her next to him again. He pulled her close and smelled her rose scented hair. Then he began to cry.

Morgan lifted her head as soon as she felt a drop land on her hand. In all the years she had known him. She had never seen him cry. And one day she had seen him cry twice. She took both of her thumbs to his cheeks and wiped the tears from them. He didn't pull away. He just sat still and let her do it.

“I thought I had lost you forever.” he said to her, while closing his eyes allowing more tears to shed.

She pulled his face in closer to hers. For a moment she felt a switching of roles. She was now comforting him. She kissed his lips. “You will never ever loose me. Because you are my salvation.” She pulled his head and rested it on her breast while she kissed the top of his head. She looked out the window and it had stopped snowing. She hadn't realized and now the moon was shinning brightly into the hospital room.

Morgan stared at herself in the mirror of the hotel bathroom on the coast of Costa Rica. She could smell the ocean breeze coming through the window. She her hair was all messy and the pretty up-do her mother's hair stylist had done was completely gone. Her make-up was smudged, but she didn't care. She looked down at her finger where the ruby ring accompanied a new silver band. She was now Morgan Athena Way. It sounded good to her. The wedding was a success, but it was way to big for her. She was glad when they arrived at the hotel. They had arrived at night and needless to say they hadn't left the bedroom yet.

“Morgan? Where are you?” Gerard yelled from the bed. She had escaped his grasp only to use the bathroom. She washed her hands and quickly bounded out to the bedroom. She was entirely naked and thats the way she liked it. She jumped into the bed with Gerard and snuggled up to his muscular bare chest, and brushed a light kiss next to his nipple.

“So, Mrs. Way, what do you want to do today?” Gerard ran his hand through his wavy black hair.

She nuzzled even farther into him. “Lay here all day and night, for two weeks.”

Gerard laughed. “Well now I hope we aren't just going to be laying here. Thats not much fun is it?” He then pulled out the scarf that he had bought her that Christmas. He flipped her on her back and gently tied her hands to the bed posts. “I think, we make today interesting.” He pulled out strawberries and whipped cream. She giggled as he dolloped some whipped cream on her bare nipple and licked it off.

“I love you.” He said staring straight into her eyes.

“I love you, more.” She said as he made his way to her lips.
